While a teacher fakes illness headline may initially seem as if it’s only a student prank, the Daily Mail reported this Friday, May 31, that a 1st grade teacher from Florida recently acknowledged that she has been faking a terminal illness for over an entire school year in order to get out of having to class.
The teacher fakes illness story came about in the case of Ashley Barker, who works as a 1st grade teacher in Polk County. In order to avoid having to attend class while still getting paid, Ms. Barker said that she and her father were suffering from an indeterminable “terminal illness”. While Ms. Barker was able to work some days, she was allowed by school officials to take several days off on certain weeks on sick leave and also take school days off early.
It appears that while the teacher fakes illness incident may be a shocker, the story gets only more shocking when it seems that over 100 forged letters were written by the 1st grade teacher regarding her hoax.
The Epoch Times was able to catch a statement from one of the parents, who seemed understandably shocked at the teacher fakes illness story.
“Wow. That’s kind of scary. Because if she lies about that, she can lie about anything,” parent Ralie Ortiz stated.
Have you ever had a teacher fake an illness? While students may often use this excuse to get out of class, this may be the first time that a teacher went to this extent to not have to come into school for a day, a month, or in this case, a year.
