Tee Ashira Hobson wears many hats and embodies many roles. Most people associate her name with the reknown book Soul Ties, which recently became a major motion picture. The movie is based on Soul Ties Part 1 (there are actually two separate novels, which may mean a sequel movie).
Hobson says “the book is aimed at helping readers find redemption from past pains and developing a new purpose and meaning in life.” Both the book and the movie follow the story of Ruth, who deals with grueling heart-wrenching experiences. The main reason that Ruth’s experiences are so touching is that just about anyone can imagine Ruth as a friend or any number of relatives.
Like all of her other books, Hosea the Whore and His Wife, The Favor of Sarah, Where Is My Boaz?, Lazarus Rises, Soul Ties II, and This Walk: My Family and I, Soul Ties (I) deals with religious themes. Hobson’s own religious convictions are made apparent by the prominent quote on her webpage: “Being a great wife, a great mother and an incredible humanitarian is the greatest gift God can give and a huge part of my legacy. The other part is just making people laugh, life is dull when people stop laughing.”
Like all her work, Soul Ties (both the books and the movie) are, “undeniable and real,” according to a Digital Journal article. Hobson plays the role of one of the films’ characters and she fits in quite well, because the stories depicted are inspired by her family and general past. The film version of Soul Ties was produced by Hobson and her husband Victor, a former NFL player.
The pair also works together when it comes to philanthropy. In 2006 they founded Hobson & Hobson Outreach. They are also supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
Later in 2013 the couple, along with David Hulbert planned to release a movie version of Hosea the Whore and His Wife. Though based on the biblical story of the profit Hosea and his formerly promiscuous wife, the movie, like the book, will fallow the modern day tale of politician Hosea Johnson whose wife is carrying a very loaded secret.
Before acting in Soul Ties Hobson made her acting debut in C’Mon Man, which she also acted as executive producer for, which came out in 2012. During this same year she also acted as executive producer for Nothing But the Bests!
She is also the executive producer of the upcoming film Cinderella Li, which is set to be released in July 2014. The 37 year-old Hobson also has plans to release movie versions of two more of her books in 2014 and 2015, because–even though she is a busy mother of 5–she likes to remain busy with her various projects.
