“The Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe, have been indicted on fraud and tax charges on Monday, July 29. The 39-count indictment from U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman includes charges for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, making false statements on loan applications, as well as bankruptcy fraud between 2001 and 2008. The Bravo reality stars face a combined maximum sentence of over 50 years in prison.
Joe Giudice is no stranger to courtrooms as he was dealing with similar issues several years ago. This time however, it is also New Jersey housewife, Teresa Giudice, who is accused of having submitted fake W2’s and fake pay stubs on a loan application, as reported by the New York Daily News on Monday, July 29.
The couple is accused of hiding their assets during their 2009 bankruptcy petition, when they allegedly failed to accurately disclose information about their rental properties, business and Teresa’s salary as a “Housewife”.
Furthermore, Joe Giudice is facing charges regarding a failure to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008, even though his income topped $990,000.
“The privilege of living well in the United States carries certain real responsibilities, including filing tax returns when required and paying the correct amount of tax,” said the special agent in charge of the IRS-Criminal Investigation’s Newark Field Office, Shantelle P. Kitchen. “Today’s indictment alleges the Giudices did not live up to their responsibilities by failing to file tax returns, falsifying loan applications and concealing assets in their bankruptcy petition. The reality is that this type of criminal conduct will not go undetected and individuals who engage in this type of financial fraud should know they will be held accountable.”
In a statement to US Weekly on Monday night, Teresa said: “Today is a most difficult day for our family. I support Joe and, as a wonderful husband and father, I know he wants only the best for our lovely daughters and me. I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career. As a result, I am hopeful that we will resolve this matter with the government as quickly as possible.”
Today, Tuesday, July 30, the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star, Teresa Giudice and her husband, Joe Giudice, face another day in court.
