If there is anything that events of the past few weeks and certainly the past four years in both the nation’s capitol and in the state capitol of Texas Red makes abundantly obvious it is that democracies don’t work.
Yet again the voting White majority of Texas red has seen fit to foist their personal beliefs onto us all.
In a state with a deplorable apartheid public education system that results in one of the nation’s highest drop-out rates, 6 million uninsured citizens, the greatest number of minimum wage earning workers and the nation’s highest prison population and execution rates our “whiteness” majority state legislators are more interested in legislating women’s bodies than in fixing the myriad things gone wrong.
Democracy by definition is majority rule. Majority rule by practice is control by the majority to their benefit and to the certain detriment of minorities.
That’s pretty much what the Founders believed as well.
“There is no maxim, in my opinion, which is more liable to be misapplied, and which, therefore, more needs elucidation, than the current one, that the interest of the majority is the political standard of right and wrong.”
– James Madison
“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!”
– Benjamin Franklin
Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.
– John Adams
When Benjamin Franklin was asked “Well, Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?
Franklin replied, “ A republic, if you can keep it”
We as a people and nation have not kept it. In fact by the time both Jefferson and Adams died on the same day, 4 July 1826, within hours of each other they both believed and stated that the revolution was over and they (the revolutionary, non-conformist malcontents) had lost.
Nowhere is that more obvious than in Texas red and in the balance of the red US South, particularly in those states with a slave-state legacy and in much, if not most, of red rual US. In those regions of the nation exists a misanthropism as pervasive as the heat and draught that plague them and as equally destructive.
The men and women sent to do the people’s business in Washington, D.C. and in state capitols across the nation are an egregious lot on the main. They live to serve their masters—and that is not you and me.
More and more today the headlines reflect the egregiously hypocritical, some might say psychotic, world in which we find ourselves.
The 99% population of this “richest nation on Earth” have only chump change jobs, rapidly diminishing basic civil rights and liberties and a majority voting population who have been brainwashed into missing the obvious and siding with the one percent who own it all.
“Think you live in a free country where your rights, including freedom of speech, are protected by the Constitution? Don’t be so sure.”

From Texas Red: a cratered landscape of for profit prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority population intent on keeping it that way…
