Day two of the Tenor Guitar Gathering 4 promises to be packed full of music and fun. At 10:45 AM, musicians will gather for a ride on the Astoria Riverfront Trolley.
The Luthier’s Exhibit is open throughout the TGG4 in the banquet room of the Rogue Ale Public House on Pier 39. Luthiers including Bill Styler, Gordon “Gordo” Styler’s brother, are exhibiting some fine hand-crafted stringed instruments crafted by some of the finest luthiers in the U.S., including Bil Styler. The Luthier’s Exhibit will be open Friday from 11:00-5:00.
From 12-2:00 on Friday, head off to the Bridgewater Bistro for the Tenor Guitar Luncheon. The featured performer of this year’s TGG4 Luncheon is Banana (Lowell ‘Banana’ Levinger), one of the original members of the Youngbloods. Banana toured with Mimi Farina from the 1970s until the 1990s. He supplied guitar, banjo, synthesizer, and back-up vocals to Mimi Farina’s 1985 album, Solo. During the 80s and 90s he played with the jam rock band Zero on keyboards, vocals and rhythm guitar. Banana released his latest CD, Even Grandpas Get the Blues, in late 2012.
Tomorrow afternoon, from 3:00-4:00 be sure to tune into KMUN for Carol Newman’s, Arts Live and Local. Carol will be talking to some of the musicians about tenor guitars and the TGG4 festival. There’s sure to be some live music and interesting conversations.
Both Friday and Saturday nights, at the Astoria Street Opry Company, enjoy An Evening of Tenor Guitars at 129 W. Bond St.. There will be a different line up each night, and Mark Josephs, the TGG4 organizer, promises some exciting surprises, great music both nights, and a good time for everyone. A portion of the proceeds for both nights goes to the Astoria Street Opry Company and KMUN. Support your local music scene, the arts and theater, and our local public radio station, KMUN.
And remember to wake up early Saturday and head out to Coffee Girl on Pier 39 for another great jam session from 9:00 to noon, great coffee drinks, breakfast and some of the best pastries in town.
