Tonight’s episode of The Bachelorette brought Desiree and the final three guys to Antigua for the overnight dates. The opening sequence showed Desiree out on a sailboat, recapping her time on the show and relationships with the guys.
Drew was up first, and Desiree let him drive, for a change, as they went out and explored. They stopped at Shirley Heights, where the locals were playing music and dancing with maracas. Drew thought this was how he and Des would be as a couple. The two even participated in doing the limbo. One of the locals weaved them a heart out of grass and encouraged them to kiss before they wandered off for a picnic.
Later, the rain put a damper on their beach dinner, but Desiree and Drew made the best of things and went right to the hotel room instead. Des presented Drew with the Fantasy Suite card. Drew read it out loud and said he was ecstatic and on board. (Of course). Drew was excited to wake up next to Desiree the next morning and thought Desiree was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. They made their way to the bedroom, where they toasted, and Drew told Des he loved her again.
Brooks struggled to figure out why he couldn’t tell Desiree that he loved her. He wondered if she was the one for him, so he spoke with his mother and sister in Idaho before he left for Antigua. They quickly came to the consensus that he was struggling because Desiree wasn’t really the right one for him, and they didn’t think it would be right for him to propose. In the end, they told Brooks he needed to be honest with himself and speak what his feelings were inside, but they would respect his decision, no matter what.
Meanwhile, Chris met Desiree for their date in Antigua. They took a helicopter tour out over the water and ended up at Barbuda Island. The two shared a picnic before lying in the sand along the water and making out.
Over dinner, the couple discussed their future. Chris was honest in saying he found a job he likes and could be successful at in Seattle before asking Des how she felt about that. She told him California was her home because it was the only place she found to call home, but she could make sacrifices for love. After their conversation, Des was sure she wanted to share the Fantasy Suite with Chris, so she presented him with the card. Chris thought it would be a great opportunity for them, and they could watch the stars and spend more time together. As usual, Chris shared more of his poetry with Des. They ended up in the hot tub, under the stars.
Desiree got dressed in a midriff-baring shirt for her date with Brooks and babbled on about how her feelings for Brooks were deeper than those she had for the other guys. Meanwhile, Brooks sat down to talk to Chris Harrison about his struggle. He told him he wasn’t expecting so many ups and downs because their dates went really well, and conversations flowed so easily. Brooks went on to explain that after Desiree met his family, he wondered if she was really the love of his life and someone he could propose to. Chris asked if what Brooks was saying was that he wasn’t sure about his feelings, or if he just wasn’t in love with this girl. Brooks thought if he didn’t feel anything at this point, he wasn’t going to, and he didn’t think Des was the love of his life. Brooks added that he had been ready to get married before, but it hadn’t worked out, even though he badly wants to be in love. He didn’t look forward to hurting Des, but Chris told him he needed to be a man and think about what he wanted to say before he broke the news to her.
Desiree was unaware of this talk and was excited to go on her date and spend time alone with Brooks. The two met down on the beach, and Brooks asked if they could talk. Brooks mumbled and avoided the point at first, saying he felt Desiree was a much better person than him, and he struggled to remember what they had when he wasn’t around her. Des asked how Brooks really felt, and he told her he really wanted to be madly in love with her. Desiree started to understand where Brooks was going and completely lost it. She couldn’t even look at him and finally asked “Why now?” He told her he didn’t know before then. Brooks tried to comfort Des, and she told him to stop as she buried her head in her knees to cry. She eventually told him she loved him, and he wondered why she couldn’t tell him that sooner. (She told him she couldn’t). Desiree told Brooks what sucked was that she finally felt hopeful and really loved him. She added that she didn’t care that he just broke her heart – she still loved him. Brooks said he was sorry and told her it sucked that he couldn’t say anything to help her. During his “in the moment” with the camera, he told us he was surprised to see her love for him and didn’t want to see her cry like that.
With that, Desiree walked Brooks out and told him she wanted him to meet her family. He said he didn’t know how conflicted she was, and she told him she was conflicted because she didn’t want to share her heart with anyone else and had wanted to give it to him the entire time. Brooks said he didn’t know what to say or do, but he didn’t want to leave her. He kept apologizing, so Des asked him to stop. Des told him to leave so she could go and sit by herself. She went back out on the pier and cried, while Brooks stood and cried by himself. Brooks muttered that this was the worst day of his life and “way worse” than he thought it would be. To the camera, Brooks said he hoped Des would find love and that he hoped she had been more in love with Drew or Chris. Desiree said it broke her heart to know she had two amazing guys left, but she just couldn’t love them as much as Brooks. For her, this was over.
