The roses, the tears, the drama, the confrontations, and the romance is back. ‘The Bachelorette’ returned on Monday, May 27 with Desiree Hartsock as the latest beauty handing out roses.
As the season premiere began, Des was genuinely excited to begin her ‘journey.’ Yes, every season is a journey….get used to it folks.
She talked a lot about her humble childhood – their modest financial situations, and the love her family shared. It was obvious that she has worked hard to get where she is, and that she truly is grateful for this opportunity.
She kept saying that she felt like Cinderella, and that the experience already felt like a fairy tale. The 26-year-old bridal stylist was even given a Bentley to drive around during her time there.
What is she looking for? A communicator. She loves companionship, and she falls head over heels. Not surprisingly, she wants to design her own wedding dress.
Before the limos and the first impressions, viewers had a chance to meet some of the guys during an extended introduction with the spotlighted few. We see that some of Des’ potentials have endured rough childhoods, while one invented ‘sign spinning,’ one is a tailor/magician (best job title on reality TV ever), and then we have the classic entrepreneur, and a handsome paint contractor in the mix. Bryden, an Iraq War Veteran made a positive impression on viewers from the beginning.
As Des stands in place to meet her 25 suitors, she is first greeted by the handsome Drew, who clearly wowed her. Next, she is greeted by another looker named Brooks, who admitted to being nervous. Brad brought a wishbone along, and Michael had the longest introduction out of everyone. Kasey is easily the most annoying contestant of this season as everything he says comes with a #Hashtag. Mikey, the plumbing contractor has dimples to die for.
Jonathan, the North Carolina Lawyer immediately got off on the wrong foot with Des. He gave her a key, and asked her to accompany him to the fantasy suite. She had to explain to him that she is not that kind of girl. On the contrary, Chris got off on the right foot with Des by joking around with her. Like Jonathan, Larry the ER Doctor also didn’t make a great first impression. He tried to get her to dance with him, and she wound up caught in her dress. The tailor/magician also introduced her with a magic trick. Zack, the Book Publisher made a respectable entrance.
Diogo’s entrance was extra notable as he came as an actual ‘Knight in Shining Armor.’ She also met Zak, a shirtless, yet seemingly egotistical hunk who asks her if she will ‘accept these abs?’
Juan Pablo, the former Soccer Player also seemed to make the bachelorette a little giddy. His accent didn’t hurt either.
Attractive Brandon arrived on a motorcycle, and it was pretty clear that he will be around for a bit.
Nick wrote Des a poem, which scored him some points since she loves poetry.
Ben stepped out with his son Brody, and immediately stole Des’ heart, landing himself the first rose. However, previews make one wonder if he is the two-timer with the girlfriend that later comes on the show to confront? Time will tell!
Ever after his introduction, Zak kept his shirt off. He earned himself a rose for following Des’ dare to jump in the pool.
She enjoyed her time with Bryden, the Iraq War veteran, and noted that they had a good conversation. She found him to be cute and timid, as well as a great communicator.
Juan Pablo brought some adventure to the mix by playing some soccer with her. They were joined by all the other suitors.
Larry the ER Dr kept taking his glasses off while he was having one-on-one-time, and didn’t seem to be winning her over.
Once again Jonathan tries to get Des to go into the fantasy suite. He keeps pulling her aside, and attempts to lure her in three times. Des insists that he has the wrong idea about who she is, and that he is making her feel uncomfortable. She asks him to leave before the rose ceremony even begins.
Meanwhile, Michael got a rose, and Kasey continues to talk in #Hashtags. In case you’re wondering he is #SafeForNow, which is #TheDisappointmentOfTheNight.
As the ceremony kicks off, Brandon is the first to earn a rose. Surprise, surprise. Of course guys like Brooks, Chris, Bryan, Dan, Robert, and Brad also join the safety spot.
Heading home was Larry, Nick the magician/tailor because there just wasn’t any magic between him and Des, Mike the Dentist, and sweet Diogo AKA the Knight in Shining. Diogo genuinely seemed heartbroken and bared his heart without any shame. He definitely wins #SaddestEliminationOfTheNight.
What did you think of the season premiere? Did Des make the right choices? Who are your favorites? Who should she send home next?
