It’s out with “Dancing with the Stars” and in with “The Bachelorette.” On May 27, Desiree Hartsock got her very first look at 25 new suitors on her quest to find love, after being jilted by Sean Lowe. So, sequins and saucy sambas are out and roses and fantasy suites are in as ABC closes out “DWTS” and begins a new chapter of “The Bachelorette.” On Monday, there were plenty of highlights, including tons of good, bad and really ugly moments.
“The Bachelorette”: The Good
Lovable good girl Desiree Hartsock was definitely one of the night’s high points. She comes from a “regular” background, meaning her family is like most of those in America. She’s very open and welcoming, plus her smile is worth a million bucks. On Monday, the newest Bachelorette said that she’s ready to “put a ring on it” and that she knows her journey may ladden with peaks and valleys. Her new mansion and sporty Bentley convertible are certainly all part of her upcoming rags-to-riches Cinderella story.
Desiree is the ninth Bachelorette and she follows in the footsteps of Trista Rehn, Meredith Phillips, Jennifer Scheft, DeAnna Pappas, Jillian Harris, Ali Fedotowsky, Ashley Hebert and Emily Maynard. Only Trista and Ashley found true love on “The Bachelorette,” but fans are really pulling for adorable and bubbly Desiree.
Out of the 25 suitors looking for that first rose, there were a few winners. The standouts included Iraq war vet, Bryden, who charmed Desiree with his tale about a child. Other potential winners included Juan Pablo, a sexy Venezuelan soccer player, and an entrepreneur and single dad named Ben, whose child stole the show.
“The Bachelorette”: The Bad
A few of Des’s suitors simply missed the mark. A sleepy ER doctor named Larry seemed out of it after he blew his grand entrance dip. Nick, the tailor/magician was too “out there” for even fun-loving Desiree. The dentist actually showed up in a lab coat, but his opening outfit wasn’t nearly as outlandish as the law student’s. It displayed the words “Designed By This Guy” and yes, it was awful and subject to ridicule. Zak decided to bear his abs and jumped in the pool and then asked, “Where is everyone?” They were all watching his embarrassing moment unfold. Dripping wet and freezing after his escapade, the drilling entrepreneur received a rose for his bold escapade. Go figure.
“The Bachelorette”: The Ugly
The worst moment on Monday (and probably from all seasons) goes to creepy lawyer, Jonathan. He mentioned the fantasy suite far too enthusiastically and one time too many. He later explained that he has no filter and added, “My love tank has not been depleted in years.” Desiree couldn’t stomach his smooth moves and quickly escorted the creep to the door. “I’m not that kind of girl,” she said with authority.
In the end, most of the eager suitors received a rose. However, the following hopefuls must return home before “The Bachelorette” even hits its stride. Here’s who was sent packing after just one group date: the boring magician, the ER doc, the lab-coated dentist, and the guy who thought it was a good idea to show up in a full suit of armor and the creep.
“The Bachelorette” starring Desiree Hartsock airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. For a sneak peek at the upcoming season, be sure to watch the video above and to the left.
