Visit Scotland through the eyes and recent abstract paintings of native born artist, Lesley Clarke at the solo exhibition and opening reception at the Foundry Gallery on Friday June 7th from 6-8pm.
Lesley transplanted to America in 1991 and is now a current member of both the Torpedo Factory and the Foundry Gallery and is the solo artist featured at the Foundry Gallery in June 2013.
“Scotland: Boundless, Beautiful and Home” is both the title and subject of works of her homeland which reflect the “dark, remote, foreboding, brutal, cold, deep, wet, green, clean, crisp, fresh, sparkling, high, floral, and bright” images of her experience and capture the raw feelings and subtle emotions evoked by the Scottish landscapes.
Lesley says that each painting emerges simply by getting paint on the canvas and allowing the energy and the spontaneous flow of the paint to form the initial work. Organically, she applies collage, graphite, pencil, spray paint, and various found objects to add texture and build layers. Her greatest pleasures are finding a home in the painting for discarded ‘treasures’ like rusted scraps of metal, weathered paper, old nails, etc.
This opening will take you on an emotional journey far far away… Do not miss a chance to meet the artist herself at the Foundry Gallery!
