UPDATE FROM TMZ
This week, were were “treated” to a small break from all the breaking scandal news in Washington, by two celebrity fracases involving Southern cooking chef, author and Food Network personality Paula Deen and my always entertaining cousin Alec Baldwin.
It seems Ms. Deen is being sued by a former employee and when answering a question under oath, she honestly responded that, in the past, she had uttered “The N-Word.”
Well, hush my mouth- a 66-year old woman in the South, tells the truth about using this vile expression and she is not only excoriated- she is, for all intents and purposes, destroyed.
Her contract with The Food Network was not renewed, her numerous sponsors including Smithfield, Walmart, Target, J.C. Penney, Sears, Home Depot, Novo Nordisk and Walgreens dropped her. Caesar Entertainment took her name off four of their restaurants. Now Random House (Ballantine) cancelled her upcoming book (which was Number 1 in pre-orders on Amazon. You can contact those who have severed ties with Paula Deen here.
Even after apologizing tearfully and profusely, it seems that only total devastation and destruction of her life would be the only thing that would satisfy her sanctimonious, holier-than-thou detractors. (I’d like to put each and every one of THEM under oath!)
Part of the irony here is that Paula Deed is a Democrat and an Obama supporter. However, she had invited Michelle Obama to be a guest on her show and some, shall we say, “bad blood” between them after the appearance. That being said, this entire Paul Deen hate-mongering and calls of racism and bigotry could have been quelled by “The Great Uniter”- Barack Obama, had he wanted to. I mean come on- he inserts himself into LOTS of matters that he really shouldn’t like “The Cambridge Police acted stupidly” and “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”
But no. Obama won’t come to Deen’s defense. Not that it’s his PLACE, mind you- but it would have been a gallant, unifying gesture to the country – to come to the defense of a woman that had supported him in his Presidential campaigns. It may have also saved some of her endorsements.
Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin, however, is a totally different story. You’ll remember the highly publicized phone message to her daughter Ireland (who was at the time, 10 nor 11 years old- he didn’t seem sure) – when he called her a rude, thoughtless little pig.
There have also been run-ins with journalists, photographers- paparazzi. Oh yeah- and he was thrown off an airplane because he refused to stop playing “Words With Friends.” He has gotten into it with Conservative radio hosts Sean Hannity (“You construction worker HACK”) and Mark Levin (“Cabin Boy”). Lest I forget, Alec acted out some Twitter rage on ME a few years ago. (He subsequently BLOCKED me- heh.)
His latest Twitter meltdown, however, seems to be a little different- resulting in him (again) pulling the plug on his Twitter account, vowing never to return. (He will, he won’t be able to stand it),
A heretofore unknown reporter named Gregory Stark, wrote a story about Alec’s wife Hilaria, which turned out to be false. In it, Stark said the very pregnant Hilaria had “tweeting” during the funeral of actor James Gandolfini – of The HBO series “The Soprano’s” fame.
Alec went characteristically ballistic over the article- posting a string of F-Bomb laden tweets:
“George Stark, you lying little b—-h. I am gonna f%#@ you up,”
“My wife and I attend a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, and some toxic Brit writes this f—ing trash,” he fumed.
“How much of this s— are people supposed to take? With these f—king blatant lies EVERY DAY,” he continued.
“My wife DID NOT use her phone, in any capacity, at our friends funeral. Now, f—k this twitter + good luck to all of you who know the truth.”
“If put my foot up your f**king ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much,” one tweet read.
“I’m gonna find you George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I’m gonna f**k yup,” he added.
He even encouraged (incited?) his fans: “I want all of my followers and beyond to straighten out this f*cking little b*tch George Stark.”
Even CNN’s Anderson Cooper (a gay man) tweeted: “Why does Alec Baldwin get a pass when he uses gay slurs? If a conservative talked of beating up a “queen” they would be vilified.”
Paul Deen’s seemingly unfortunate honesty about using the bigoted N-Word (over twenty years ago when a black man had a gun pointed at her head, BTW) and this homophobic rant of Baldwin’s pale in comparison to one another.
Yet- Baldwin is the spokesperson for Capital One credit cards (What’s In Your Wallet?) – and the company has declined comment on the situation. They are most likely waiting for the entire thing to blow over.
Baldwin is already “apologizing”- and reaching out to GLAAD and members of the Gay and Lesbian Community.
I am not one for boycotts or calling for ANYONE to get fired – I think it’s petty, counterproductive, a waste of energy and “bad Karma.”
But I DO feel that the blatant hypocrisy of The Left- (including my cousin Alec) glares hot under this spotlight. The Hollywood and New York “elites”- look down their noses at people in the South. We are all uneducated, toothless, hillbilly rubes living as trailer trash. Clinging to our God, guns and religion, don’t you know?
Paula Deen may be down, but she’s not out.
But Alec is in serious need of some anger management, therapy or a serious ($$$) chat with his handlers- before he goes postal for real, bless his heart.
Seek help, honey.
And Paula- I have a vacant trailer should you ever need one. I have a hankering for some down home Southern cooking. Bring on the bacon, butter, grits and sugar, ya’ll.
