As men and women we all have a natural need for privacy, however, overtime once that need has been acknowledged and respected, complacency steps in. Getting comfortable in a relationship or marriage becomes second nature instead of something you have to work at. It happens to the best of us. No more flowers and fewer date nights. So too the aspect of privacy be seldom taken for granted. Where is that line of privacy drawn?
Is it okay to check your mate’s cell phone, emails, car or clothing? If so what is the agenda or is it just an excuse to snoop. There is a difference of simply looking for something and being inquisitive. Either way, boundaries needs to be communicated and established early on in the relationship.
No one really likes having their privacy invaded, male or female. Many people are comfortable having their mates go through their stuff and have no qualms about it, for others it’s actually not a matter of trust; it’s a matter of time and comfort. Anytime you feel there is a need to pry into his/her cell phone then there is a problem. Somewhere along the line trust, uncertainty and doubt begins to linger. That shocked, aggressive reaction when caught red-handed going through his desk or pants pockets, isn’t necessarily a sign that he is cheating or stepping out of lane in the relationship, it’s a normal reaction to having a blatant display of diminishing trust.
Learn your mate. If there are signs in his/her attitude, work hours, intimacy, to name a few, it may be a good time to sit and have a face to face conversation. Sometimes it was simply a matter of being fatigued from working longer hours and financial stress. Still, at the same time, you will know when something is definitely wrong.
While to some it’s a violation of privacy, to others it’s neither here nor there, trust is the overruling factor. If it has become necessary to constantly be checking for signs of cheating activity, then maybe it’s time to reconsider your relationship. Remember, not every negative reaction is a definite sign, not every definite sign is regarded proof.
