The Kansas City Fringe Festival began on Thursday July 18 with a preview of 50 acts at the Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus. The festival is located at several venues including the Unicorn Theatre, Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre and Just off Broadway to mention a few. The final production of the American Heartland Theatre in Crown Center begins on July 12. “The Bikinis-A New Musical Beach Party” will run through August 25, with the theater closing with the show. This lovely theater has been part of the live arts scene in Kansas City for many years and everyone should take this last opportunity to see a show while they can.
Several sporting events are scheduled for the weekend including the Web.com Midwest Cadillac Classic at the Lionsgate Golf Course in Overland Park, Kan. Golfer on the tour will tee it up through the week-end with the final round on Sunday. FCKC Blues return to the Verizon Wireless Field in Overland Park at 7:30 on Saturday night.

Aftershock Bar and Grill
The Aftershock Bar and Grill is located at 5240 Merriam Dr. in Merriam, Kan. On Friday night the club will feature Slam Radio Summer Jam II beginning at 7 p.m. and is suitable for all ages. Saturday night the club will feature Red Line Chemistry, Drek and Mad Libby and is also suitable for all ages.
The Czar Bar located at 1531 Grand, in the Power and Light Entertainment District. Friday night enjoy the Phil Creighton Birthday Celebration with Cherokee Rock Rifle, Souless and Adam Lee and Brooke Blanche at 9 p.m. On Saturday night at 6 p.m. the Raqs Boheme Bellydancers perform and at 10 p.m. E/C presents: Hookah Hits.
Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club
Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club is located just south of downtown at 3402 Main in Kansas City. Friday night the club will feature Damned by the Pope, Waltz of the Rabid, Enemies Laid to Rest and At The Left Hand of God at 8 p.m. Saturday night at 9 p.m. The Bad Ideas, Brannock Device and Steady States perform.
Kellys Westport Inn
Kelly’s Westport Inn located at 500 Westport Road, in the Westport Entertainment District, will feature the Rent at 10 p.m. on Friday night. At 10 p.m. on Saturday night Flannigan’s Right Hook take the stage. Kelly’s Westport Inn has an outdoor dining and drinking area located on the roof-top of the business.
The RecordBar is located at 1020 Westport Road in the Westport Entertainment District. On Friday night at 10 p.m. the club features the Hearts of Darkness and Stik Figa. Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. listen to the music of the night with Clair and the Crowded Stage, Tenderness Wilderness, Appropriate Grammar and Ally Peeler.
The Riot Room
The Riot Room is located at 4048 Broadway in the Westport Entertainment District. On Friday night beginning at 8 p.m. Kansas City hometown radio station 96.5 Home Grown Buzz Presents: Me Like Bees, Antennas Up and Abandon Kansas. Saturday night 96.5 the Buzz Presents: Beautiful Bodies, Grenadina and The Strive.
Uptown Arts Bar
Located at 3611 Broadway the Uptown Arts Bar Friday night will feature live music with Vice Versa from 8 to 10 p.m. At 10:30 p.m. enjoy the Late Night on the Fringe. Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m. the club will feature live music with The Depth and the Whisper. At 10:30 Late Night on the Fringe begins.
