Since the first appearance of this article I have received many requests to republish the information. Llanerch Hills Chapel continues to help those less fortunate. Not only are they continuing with Connect By Night in the month of December, they are now looking into ways of preparing lunches on a monthly basis for the needy. Any donations would be grateful. As reported before this is a very small church but they are creating mighty big handfuls of help to their neighbors.
Llanerch Hills Chapel, located on Myrtlewood Avenue, in Havertown, may be small in membership but what they lack in numbers they make up in their devotion to helping the less fortunate. The Chapel is led by Pastor Joel Thompson. This church, whose members are mainly seniors and only number about 50, take in for the entire month of December, homeless men and women. This church is involved in a project called “Connect by Night” The charity program enlists area churches to house those who are homeless for one month of nights. Mrs. Helen Koch has been instrumental in bring Connect by Night to LHC.The churches obtain donations to feed their guests dinner each night and then prepare bagged lunches for the next day. Llanerch Hills Chapel was so grateful for a few local businesses that contributed such as Civera’s Deli, Arthur’s Deli and National Soap Company, all in Upper Darby. Each day church members get together to prepare the bagged lunches, and with the gifts of area neighbors make up toiletry bags. Each night about 50 individuals are taken from a homeless shelter, that would not be able to house them due to overcrowding, and brought to the church. There they are met by smiling, dedicated members of the church, who listen to stories of need and offer a shoulder to lean on. What is amazing about this church is the membership has taken the time to see a need in the neighborhood and have come to the aid of so many.. These seniors fully commit themselves to helping those in need. It is truly amazing. You can’t help but feel their compassion and their great love of people. LHC, also, keeps a food bank for its members who need help stretching their dollars to cover the expense of food.Food bank items are accepted daily.
Llanerch Hills Chapel will be once again housing those in need in the month of December. Volunteers are welcome as are donations of food, clothing and toiletries.
