For millions of years, the Florida landscape was a nearly flat plain, with Britton Hill in northern Walton County near the town of Lakewood, Florida being the exception at a staggering 345 feet (105 meters) above mean sea level. In the 1970s, a man named Walt Disney set out to change all that, from a forced perspective point of view, anyway!
At Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, guests can conquer the outer reaches of Space at Space Mountain, explore the briar patch at Splash Mountain, see the wild west at Big Thunder Mountain, explore the Himalayas at Expedition Everest, and battle the relentless Florida heat at Summit Plummet and Mount Mayday. Now, a mere forty-five minutes from the rest of the Orlando area attractions, a new mountain has emerged in the wilds of Winter Haven.
On Thursday, June 27, LEGOLAND Florida theme park marked the final construction milestone of The World of Chima expansion opening July 3. Early in the morning, crews hoisted a dramatic “floating” centerpiece, called Mount Cavora, into the attraction area.
Mount Cavora, based on The LEGO Legends of Chima storyline, is a mystical floating mountain that provides animals with the energy source CHI via its waterfalls. The attraction structure will cascade water into the interactive splash-battle family ride, The Quest for CHI, soaking everyone below with a force of 1,000 gallons of water per minute.
As with the other mountains in central Florida, this one is entirely man-made. At a weight of 7,500 lbs, more than a large SUV, the structure seems to take a few cues from other similar focal points. In addition to it’s rocky facade, the structure features the faces of the animal tribes represented in the Legends of Chima product storyline. It also utilizes the idea of forced perspective, and though it only measures 40-foot wide by 23-foot high, it’s over the top height of 55 feet above the ride itself makeit seem much larger.
According to spokespeople for LEGOLAND Florida, when the new World of Chima opens on July 3, guests will be able to explore three new interactive attractions. At The Quest for CHI, guests will board watercrafts to become a part of the story, engaging in an interactive soaking battle through The World of Chima for the powerful energy source, CHI. Outside of the main attraction guests will be able to unleash the power and race handheld ripcord vehicles at SpeedorzTM Arena. Families will be further immersed in the story with the chance to meet characters Laval the Lion Prince and Cragger the Crocodile King, splash and play in Cragger’s Swamp play area and experience a 4-D Chima movie.
Although the LEGOLAND Florida park definately caters to visitors from 2 – 12, the attractions can be enjoyed and appreciated by children of all ages! So, if you’ve already conquered the mountains at the home of the mouse, be sure to visit Laval the Lion Prince and Cragger the Crocodile King at their new home in the World of Chima.
