Imagine what it must have been like to have been at Yasgur’s Farm, located just outside a tiny rural village in upstate New York, way back in 1969. You had no idea that you were going to be part of an event that would become a legend but your love of the music had attracted you like a moth to a flame…so there you were.
Just last week, nearly 35 years later, the septuagenarian Rolling Stones played at a small 320 seat capacity nightclub in the Big Apple. Somehow the word leaked out and the lines to be one of the lucky few in the audience for that historic evening circled the city block many times over.
Wouldn’t you love to be one of the informed inner sanctum of aficionados who knew when a world changing moment in a musical genre that you loved was about to occur? Well, this time you’re getting that inside information far enough in advance so that it will make it a virtual lock that you will have the opportunity to become part of history .
On Friday evening, May 31st, two Grammy Award winners will be introducing a new composition dedicated to the area where it will be initially performed. The good news is that you won’t have to travel very far to hear this world premiere. The bad news is…. well actually there is no bad news!
Back in the sixties, Joni Mitchell wrote…and performed…the eponymous song dedicated to ‘Woodstock’ . It endured and has became a rock and roll classic. There is every reason to believe that ‘Rosarito’, penned by Albert ‘Beto’ Jimenez and Ismael Gallegos, might have the same exalted success in the world of mariachi. In any case, you won’t have to go far…or pay a king’s ransom…to find out if what promises to be a classic will live up to its great expectations when performed by the highly decorated musical royalty, The Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea.
The legendary Rosarito Beach Hotel , in collaboration with the Club de Ninos y Ninas Seccion Rosarito, is pleased to invite everyone… both north and south of the border…to the one-night-only special event of “In Concert: the Baja Idol Finalists and the Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas.” In addition to performances by Baja’s best young vocal talent accompanied by Mariachi Aguila de Tijuana, the evening’s entertainment will feature a pre-release ‘sneak peak’ by The Divas of selections from their 2013 (9th) CD, ‘A mi manera’, including the first public performance of ‘Mi Rosarito’. The famed Los Angeles-based cinematographer Adrian Trujillo will also be on site completing the week-long filming of the accompanying music video which will include everyone in attendance at the festivities. His Grammy Award-nominated video of ‘Ay mi Mexico’ (also composed by Jimenez and Gallegos) from The Divas 2012 (8th) CD, ‘Oye’, can be viewed on You Tube.
Scintillating performances featuring the second season of Baja Idol’s most talented vocalists…Bianca Rocha, Santiago Saavedra, Maryam Malak, and your current Baja Idol, Ariel De la Rosa…will be showcased during the multi-faceted live concierto of award-winning performers.
