Recently, I took an amazing long weekend trip to San Diego. I used to go there when I was a little girl to visit my grandparents, but I hadn’t been there in years and didn’t really remember anything about. There are so many great things to do and see in San Diego and the surrounding towns, that one long weekend didn’t seem like enough time.
During our trip we went to many great places including La Jolla, Old Town, Coronado and the Gaslamp District in downtown. While we were in the Gaslamp District we had the best ice cream sundae I have ever had at Ghiradelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop. Having visited San Francisco a few years ago, I already knew how great the Ghiradelli shops were and the fact that they give away a free chocolate. After perusing the menu, we finally settled on a sundae with a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate hot fudge and a warm chocolate chip cookie on the bottom.
This sundae was the ultimate in decadence. I think it might have been the best thing I ate during our entire trip to San Diego. The cookie was warm and added nice texture to the smooth and creamy ice cream. Plus, you can’t beat hot fudge, especially when it is made with dark chocolate.
When you go: Ghiradelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop is located in the Gaslamp District between G Street and Market Street on 5th Avenue. They are open until 11:00 pm most nights of the week. Call (619) 234-2449 for more information.
