Things are heating up on NBC’s “The Voice” as it gets down to the final 6! Blake Shelton, who won the past two seasons, is the only coach who still has his entire team from the top twelve in the competition. Adam Levine, Usher, and Shakira each have one contestant left along with the hope to get them to the final stretch.
In what many are calling a shocking outcome, in one swoop Team Adam Levine came down to one this past week as both Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons were the two who did not secure enough votes to move further in the competition.
I spoke with Levine on Tuesday immediately following the announcement of his eliminated artists; and when asked what he thinks happened, the platinum-selling musician told me he believes it was multiple factors that came into play with America’s decision.
“You know, it is a television show. There are some very compelling stories on the show that guide people towards certain artists and I completely understand and respect that, especially, considering the fact that there is so much going on in the world right now. Obviously all the things that have been happening in Oklahoma; it breaks my heart every day,”said Levine, whose team won the first season of “The Voice”. “The show has these multi-faceted ways of reaching people and that is a beautiful thing. In my particular situation there was nothing happening other than the singing, and I think the big, and to be totally honest with you more
important issues, came into play here. It’s a television show. We’re living our lives in real time and things are happening that need to be paid attention to; that’s a part of the show.”
Levine went on to explain that for him it’s not really about competing with his fellow coaches, but more about mentoring the young artists.“I couldn’t possibly care less if I win or lose. I care much more about nurturing the talent on the show. And that’s where my job begins and ends. And I’m not here to do anything
other than that. I’m not here to play anyone against anyone else. I love music. And I love talent. And I love being around it. It’s a privilege to be around so much of it actually. Blake is one of my best friends. I love Shakira and Usher. I love all these guys,” said the platinum,-selling artist musician.
“Amber Carrington, my last woman standing, nobody turned around for her; the people who went home tonight, every chair turned out for. So that makes me proud.”
It was definitely a proud night for Shakira during the results show when Carson Daly announced that her remaining artist, Sasha Allen, was saved by the country and would not be going home.
“I was prepared for the worst,” Shakira told me Tuesday night. “Honestly, I didn’t sleep last night thinking about Sasha; thinking about the possibility that I maybe screwed up her career by making her sing a dance song. But I’m so glad that I didn’t and that she is still here because she really, truly deserves to continue in this competition. She has so much to offer. Her voice is out of this world. She’s such a sweet girl.”
While Shakira said she will be more careful with her song selection in the future, she added that she still believes risk taking in the music you choose to sing is an essential part of the growing process of an artist- which is part of her goal for Allen. “She has to continue killing it and I have to make sure that the song is right and the next song is right for her. Not experimenting with her; it’s virtually impossible in this show. It’s one of the key factors. You have to continuously try for new ideas and you continuously try to help your own artist find their artistic identity and that takes experimentation. And when you experiment, you have to be open to make mistakes and sometimes to make the right moves,” said the international pop-star, who is in her first season as a coach on the NBC hit. “I’m learning about her. I’m learning about what America expects from her, too. Hopefully she will continue to remain alive in this competition. Along with me!”
