“The Voice” is live tonight (May 27, 2013) with the Top 8 all singing for their survival and a spot in the Top 6. Here we will preview the songs you will hear the Top 8 singers perform tonight.
Going into tonight, the favorites are Danielle Bradbery and Michelle Chamuel. Danielle has dominated the iTunes charts the last three weeks and Michelle has consistently done well in that arena. The remaining six: Judith Hill, Holly Tucker, The Swon Brothers, Amber Carrington, and Sarah Simmons need to step up and do something impressive tonight. All eight remaining acts are strong so anyone who is not charting well on iTunes could easily be sent home. Usher and Shakira each only have one artist left. Either, or both, could be knocked out of the competition tomorrow night when two more singers will be sent home.
Team Adam with Amber Carrington, Judith hill and Sarah Simmons is in a good position. Judith is likely his strongest competitor left. She has experience and knows how to connect with an audience. For some reason, last week’s Michael Jackson song, while emotional for her, didn’t resonate with audiences. Tonight she will be doing Will I Am’s “That Power.” It is a risk for her because she is a big singer and this is more of a pop/dance track. It will be interesting to see what she does with it. Rounding out Adam’s team is Amber Carrington doing “Skyfall” and Sarah Simmons doing “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Both of these are interesting choices. “Skyfall” isn’t the first song you would think of for country singer Amber. Sarah has a big voice that she could use to transform “Somebody That I Used to Know.” She could also overdo it and fall flat.
Team Blake also has three singers left. Frontrunner Danielle Bradbery will sing The Judd’s hit, “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Ol’ Days).” It is a good song for her that should let her showcase the strength of her voice. Holly Tucker will do The Band Perry’s “Done.” It is a catchy song that should work well for her. The Swon Brothers have a chance to do something very special with The Eagles hit, “Seven Bridges Road.” The duo can harmonize well and this is the perfect song for them to showcase that.
Team Usher’s Michelle Chamuel tackles Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” this week. This is an emotional song that could be right in her wheelhouse. I look for her to do something special with it.
Team Shakira’s Sasha Allen will sing David Guetta’s “Without You.” The original version features Usher on the track so it is a bold move. This is one of those songs that she could turn into something special or it could be a disaster.
Based just on the song previews, I would say Sasha Allen and Amber Carrington are the two that hang in the balance here. They have tough songs and desperately need to do well. Unless she falls flat, Danielle will likely move on, but just about anyone else is in danger this week so all the singers better come out swinging.
Tune in tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC to see the Top 8 perform live on “The Voice.”
