Northeast Ohio is one of the premier regions in the United States for the growing of grapes and the making of wine. In fact, this region of Ohio has the distinction of being one of the very few areas in the country that can produce ice wine.
Clevelanders have the chance to celebrate Ohio wineries and the quality wines that they produce at the 19th annual Vintage Ohio Wine Festival being held on Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3 at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland, Ohio, located approximately 25 miles east of downtown Cleveland.
Vintage Ohio Expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors, Vintage Ohio will play host to 18 wineries from around Ohio who will offer more than 150 vintages for sampling and purchase by glass or bottle.
Area wineries that will participate at this year’s Vintage Ohio include Breitenbach Wine Cellars, Candlelight Winery, Buckeye Winery, Debonne Vineyards, Deer’s Leap Winery, Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, Grand River Cellars Winery & Restaurant, Grape & Granary, It’s Your Winery, Klingshire Winery, Maize Valley Winery, Valley Vineyards, Vermilion Valley Vineyards, Vinoklet Winery, Old Mill Winery, Old Firehouse Winery, Auburn Twin Oaks Winery, Barrel Run Crossing Winery and The Winery at Spring Hill.
Other activities at Vintage Ohio include live musical entertainment, cooking demonstrations and children’s entertainment. Regional artisans and crafters will be there to offer items for sale and visitors will be able to sample cuisine from regional restaurants and caterers.
Friday evening activities include a huge fireworks display (weather permitting).
Visitors (who purchase an Adult Sampler ticket) also have the opportunity to partake of the Meet the Winemaker Experience where they can talk directly to the winemakers, sit in an exclusive pavilion, sample 10 gold & silver medal-winning wine samplers and enjoy some light appetizers. Cost for the Meet the Winemaker Experience is an additional $15.
Vintage Ohio guests will have access to all regular Farmpark activities including ice cream making, milking demonstrations, cheese making, border collie demonstrations, a hydroponics garden tour, animal encounters, pony rides, Light Horse Brigade demonstrations, a Scratch and Sniff Garden tour and vineyard tours. Lake Metroparks Farmpark will not be open to the public during the Vintage Ohio Festival.
Hours for Vintage Ohio are 1 p.m. – 10 p.m. both Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3.
Advance tickets may be purchased until August 1. Advance Adult Sampler tickets are $25 and $40 (including Meet the Winemakers tent). Adult Sampler tickets at the gate are $30 and $45. The Adult Sampler ticket includes 25 wine samples. Admission for Designated Drivers is $12 which includes entry to the Festival, a souvenir plastic cup, and 5 soft drinks from the designated driver tents. Designated drivers may not sample any wines. Admission for visitors 3-18 is $3. Children under 3 are free.
