As part of a world wide protest against the Monsanto Company and its genetically modified seed production, thousands of activists took to the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Saturday for the ‘March Against Monsanto’ rally. The event began in Pershing Square at 11 a.m. and ended at the steps of City Hall at 4 p.m.
Actor, director and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr., actors Robin Arcuri, Lewis Smith, Carolina De Athey, and Mayan Rapper Guido Coreleone were some of the celebrities that participated in the rally.
Mexican dance group Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc (DMC) performed a ceremonial dance at Pershing Square to kick off the event, with organizers Dorothy and Alissa Muehlmann rallying the crowds as performance artist, poet and painter Nance Broderzen gave one of her ‘Spoken Word’ pieces to the crowd.
“I can see all the way to third street, but see no end in sight” said Sergeant Baker of the L.A. Police Department as he describes the enormous gathering of marchers from 1st and Hill.
Ed Begley Jr. had this to say during the rally — “Lets hear your voices now, not just today at this wonderful rally, but Email about it! Tweet about it! Show up! Get in the streets and take action!”
“They need to know. Go to the Rodeo institute.org — has lots of information about great successes. Large scale farming, medium scale farming that is organic and sustainable. So if you want to check that out, and say ‘No’ to Monsanto!”

“We made history today”, says actress Robin Arcuri. “We kicked off a peaceful march in my home town of Los Angeles, California — No fights, no tension, and no injuries. The turn out was well over a thousand people of all ages, including children who’s only concern were the avoidance of a few pot holes in the street.”
“I’d like to congratulate the States of Vermont and Connecticut for passing the GMO labeling bill. Now let’s make that happen on a global level”, said Arcuri.
“We have a responsibility to humanity to fight against any form of injustice”, says L.A. March Organizer Dorothy Muehlmann.
“Currently a major injustice against humanity is Monsanto’s use of GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms) and disregard for the environment and lives of the people. So we stood together on May 25th world wide in solidarity, in peace, and love to share a common hope of changing the world.”
Special thanks to Ed Begley Jr., Robin Arcuri, and Dorothy Muehlmann.
