The three bodies found on a farm in Kansas were discovered by friends after police failed to recognize that the foul smell in the garage came from three dead bodies. “They didn’t find the body. We found the body within five minutes of being in the garage. They didn’t even walk in the garage long enough to look for a body, so we’re a little irritated,” said Shona Osladil, one of the people who found the first dead body according to a KCTV5 May 6, 2013, report.
Kortni McGill, who also found the body, commented that the garage stunk and while police said that the smell was garbage, her reaction was “no, that doesn’t smell like trash, it smells like something died in there.”
On Sunday, Shona Osladil and his friend went to the farm in rural Franklin County near Ottawa in eastern Kansas to check on the owner’s pets. When they smelled something foul, they called the police.
On Monday, Shona Osladil returned to the farm with two friends because police officers had not found anything. That is when they made a gruesome discovery.
“’We thought it was sandbags at first,’ Shona Osladil said. ‘The body was wrapped in a blue tarp. There was a cinder block on top of her head.’ Corey Schlotzhauer said a bag of baby clothing was lying near the woman’s body. A child’s sleeping bag, coat and a bottle and other baby stuff were found in a trash can outside the garage.”
According to police, the three dead bodies on the farm were discovered on Monday at 12:16 p.m. and are that of two men and one woman.
While police are not releasing the names of the three dead bodies found on the farm until their identity has been confirmed, friends and family members of the woman believe that the dead woman is 21-year-old Kaylie Bailey.
“Andrew Stout, the property owner, his girlfriend, Kaylie Bailey, and Stout’s roommate, Steven Eugene White, 31, are missing. Relatives and loved ones say they fear they are the woman and two men whose bodies were found on Stout’s farm.”
Kaylie Bailey was reported missing by her father after she didn’t report for work on May 1, 2013, and 30-year-old Andrew Stout was last heard from on April 25, 2013.
Even though the Olathe Police Department confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that they had received a missing persons report for 21-year-old Kaylie Bailey and her one-year-old daughter Lana L. Bailey, family members are frustrated that authorities have not issued an Amber Alert for Kaylie Bailey’s one-year-old daughter.
More than 40 detectives are now working on the case of the three bodies found on the farm. According to the video report, there will be an investigation into why police officers failed where friends succeeded – recognizing a smell and finding dead bodies on a farm.
