Tim Lambesis, co-founder, frontman, singer and guitar player of the Christian metalcore band, As I Lay Dying, posted bond and was released from jail in San Diego, Calif. on May 30 after being charged with one count of solicitation of murder. The singer was arrested on May 7, “for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill his wife.”
According to Radio.com, the hitman Lambesis hired was an undercover cop.
Lambesis reportedly paid the undercover police officer posing as a potential hitman $1,000 to do the dirty deed.
Allegedly, Lambesis gave the supposed hitman pictures of his wife, Meggan Lambesis, along with the security alarm access codes to her house. Additionally, Lambesis also provided “a list of dates when he would be away with the couple’s three adopted children in order to establish an alibi.”
Meggan Lambesis had filed for divorce from her Christian rocker hubbie in September, 2012, citing irreconcilable differences.
Lambesis’ bail was originally set at $20 million. After he pleaded not guilty to the one count of solicitation of murder, his bail was reduced to $2 million.
Judge David L. Berry stipulated that if Lambesis makes bail, he must wear a GPS device, remain in San Diego and stay away from his wife and children.
Lambesis’ lawyer, Thomas Warwick, tried to make the argument that as a result of an obsession with bodybuilding, his client was under the adverse influences of steroid abuse, and testified that Lambesis’ “thought processes were devastatingly affected by his steroid use.”
Lambesis “was not the same person,” Warwick added. “He was irritable and lost God.”
Tim Lambesis will be back in court on June 10. If found guilty of solicitation of murder, he could be facing up to 9 years behind bars.
Earlier today, the remaining members of As I Lay Dying, posted on their Facebok page:
