Familiar sites are getting ready to open for the season.
Tropicanoe Cove, Castaway Bay, Vinton Pool, West Lafayette (Kingston) Pool, Buccaneer Bay (link), and Indiana Beach (link) provide a cool respite throughout warm summer days. Prophetstown State Park Water Center is not completed yet. Currently it is hoped that the water facility will be done in time for July. Unfortunately, the Battlefield Pool is no longer. Repairs became too costly and it has been filled in.
Vinton Pool: Located on Prairie Ln. and Elmwood next to the Vinton School. This pool is the oldest on the east side. It has been re-vamped and now features a gentle “beach” slope entry into the pool. The diving boards are gone, replaced by a twin water slide. There is a handicap chair, 300# rating. Call ahead for waterproof wheel chair availability. This pool does have an adult lap swim option after hours. You must pre-arrange this with the pool, call 807-0035. It will open for the season after the Lafayette Schools close. Hours are: Daily noon – 6 p.m., Thursday noon -8 p.m. Adult swim 6:15 p.m.-7 p.m. This facility can be rented for private parties. This facility has a flat rate of $3 per person, 2 and under free. The reduced rate for the Thursday family night, after 4 p.m., is $1.25 per person, 2 and under free. Season pass is $55, additional family members are $25 per member.
Tropicanoe Cove (link): Located in Columbian Park, this water park replaced the old circular pool. This family friendly facility has a number of different features. An infant/toddler area allows parents to introduce little ones to the water. The banana peel tube ride is a perennial favorite, especially with the teens. It has its own schedule and may not be open while the water park is. The Cattail Crik provides a lazy river experience. This facility has adult water walking sessions (link). The park will be open Memorial Weekend: Saturday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m. and Monday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The facility will be closed during the week while Lafayette Schools are in session. During the season, Wednesdays the pool is open until 8p.m. There is a handicap lift chair, 300# rating and call ahead for water-proof wheelchair availability. This facility is available for private parties. User fees vary (link).
Castaway Bay (link): Located on Beck Lane in Armstrong Park, this small water park replaced the old Edgelea Pool. This family friendly venue has a gentle slope “beach entry” for the little ones. Dancing waters provide a splash feature for bathers to enjoy. A bubble bench provides a Jacuzzi effect. For the older kids they have water basketball. This facility will not be open Memorial Day. It will open when Lafayette Schools close in June. This facility hosts swim lessons through Swim America (link). There is handicap lift chair, 300# rating. Call ahead to check availability of waterproof wheelchair. Facility hours are: Daily noon – 6 p.m., Tuesdays noon to 8 p.m. This facility can be rented for private parties. Admission: Adults (18+) are $4, youth (3-17) are $3.50, (2 & under) free for day pass. They have an evening reduced price after 4 p.m. Adults $3, youth $2.50. On Tuesday family night the reduced rates (after 4 p.m.) are $2 for 3 and older. Season pass is $75.00, additional family members are $25.00
West Lafayette Municipal Pool
West Lafayette Municipal Pool (link): Located off Salisbury behind Happy Hollow School, some still call this Kingston Pool. This pool is a full sized competition pool. Also onsite is a baby pool with a spray umbrella and a toddler pool. The deep end has 2 diving boards set at about 4’. The main pool has stairs at both ends; ladders in the deep end and has a sling for handicap use. The sling has a 300# limit. The pool opens Memorial Weekend for the season. The season end is August 11. Rates per session: Adult (16+) $4, youth (3-15) $3.50, 2 and under free. Rates are the same for day and evening sessions. Family pass (up to 5 immediate relatives) $165. Adult lap swim is available 2 times a day, beginning on May 28. Adult lap swim is $3.50 at the gate; passes are $75 for the season. Passes must be purchased at the Parks and Rec. Office on Kalberer Rd. near the community garden (door on the west side of the parks barn.) Passes are not available at the gate. They are non-refundable and are not interchangeable. Swimming Lessons and diving lessons are available.
