The Force and Dark Side have invaded Walt Disney World.
Star Wars Weekends kicked off last weekend and will be taking place every weekend through June 9, 2013 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests can enjoy the “Legends of the Force” Motoracade, celebrity autograph sessions, Hyperspace Hoopla dance party, “Star Wars” character meet n’ greets, delicious “Star Wars” themed food and exclusive Star Wars Weekends merchandise. With so much going on it can be a bit overwhelming, especially to first time visitors.
So what should you do? Where do you start? How do you enjoy everything that the event has to offer? Here are tips for getting the most out of Star Wars Weekends:
Pick up an event map
Pick up an event map and familiarize yourself with it. The Star Wars Weekends maps change every weekend to reflect what is going on that particular weekend. It contains all of the events, times and locations so you can plan your weekend out and make sure you don’t miss anything.
Catch “Legends of the Force” Motoracade
The “Legends of the Force” Motorcade is a must-see for all “Star Wars” fans. Guests can see Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy dress as their favorite “Star Wars” characters, the 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, little Padawans and the celebrities welcoming you to the park.
Meet the celebrities
Guests can meet their favorite “Star Wars” celebrities like Dee Bradley Baker, voice of Captain Rex, Commander Cody and all the clones in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”. Make sure to get to the parks early to get a FastPass to meet them. Many people, especially the locals, camp out overnight to get a FastPass for their favorites. If you don’t arrive at the park before it opens you’ll have no chance to meet any of the celebrities, as all of the passes will be gone.
Watch the celebrity shows
Shows will be taking place throughout the day in the Premier Theater. Make sure you catch these. They are all hosted and include the celebrities that are there that weekend. Some of the shows include: Obi Wan and Beyond starring James Arnold Taylor showcases his many voice talents and Behind the Force gives you a look into the making of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”. If you are wanting to catch one of these get there a little early as people start lining up to get the best seats.
Don’t miss Hyperspace Hoopla
Hyperspace Hoopla closed down the event nightly. It’s a must not be missed dance party. “Star Wars” character from the Light and Dark Side battle it out to win this intergalactic dance-off. Cheer on your favorite dance performance.
Character meet n’ greets
Take time to get your picture taken and autographs with several of the characters from the movies. Some of the characters you can expect to see are Anakin Skywalker, Kit Fisto, Princess Leia, Queen Amidala, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Asajj Ventress and Zam Wesell. Make sure to have your cameras and autograph books ready for when you meet them.
Try the “Star Wars” food
Make sure to stop and try a Darth Vader cupcake or pick up one of the R2-D2 popcorn buckets. The Darth Vader cupcake is only available during Star Wars Weekends and is a rich, chocolate cupcake topped with peanut butter frosting, coated in chocolate, drizzled with chocolate and topped with a dark chocolate Darth Vader holding an edible lightsaber.
Check out the cool merchandise
Make sure to stop by the merchandise tent to check out the exclusive Star Wars Weekends merchandise. You can pick up autograph books, limited edition items, pick up a D-Tech Me 3D Stormtrooper or cast yourself in carbonite like Han Solo. Ashley Eckstein will even have her clothing line, Her Universe, there for female fans to purchase.
Dress in costume
Come dressed up as your favorite “Star Wars” character and get into the role. Guests of all ages will come dressed up as their favorite jedi, sith or bounty hunter. This is one of the few events that adults can come dressed up in costume. The only restriction is that you can’t wear a face mask.
It’s very hot and humid in Florida so make sure to stay cool and hydrated. Make sure to drink plenty of water, especially if you come dressed in costume. Costumes that are heavy or dark can cause you to sweat a lot in the sun and become very dehydrate. Take time to get out of the hot sun and step inside where it is cool. There are the shows like Obi Wan and Beyond to catch in the Premiere Theater, grab a lunch at one of the air-conditioned restaurants or do a little shopping to cool down.
