Memorial Day was the unofficial start of summer and the month of June brings the official beginning of the new season. June is a fantastic time to visit the Windy City. The temperatures are rising, but not so hot that you’ll be sweating bullets throughout the day, and the crowds are starting to thicken, but it’s not so crowded that you’ll be packed in the Shedd Aquarium like sardines with the rest of the locals and vacation goers. Chicago Blues Festival
June 6-9, 2013
The 30th Annual Blues Festival is one of the early festivals this summer, but this event is the largest free blues festival in the world! Blues headliners like Shemekia Copeland, Otis Clay, Bobby Rush, James Cotton and many more will be “Rollin’ up the River” from Mississippi to Chicago, Illinois! The begins starts on Thursday at Jay Pritzker Pavilionin Millennium Park, then the music moves to Grant Park for the performances Friday thru Sunday.
Chicago Women’s Funny Festival
June 6-9, 2013
That same weekend stop by Stage 773 so see some of the funniest ladies around. This funny festival is back for its second year to celebrates women in comedy with headliners like Danielle Wheeler, KB Marion, Pushy Muldowney and more will be performing standup, improv and whatever else they can come up with to induce a few good laughs.
Movies in the Parks Begins
June 13 – September 14
More than 150 parks in Chicago start playing movies on the big screen for a few nights each for the Chicago family-friendly tradition. Catch a mix of some of the latest and greatest movies and some of the classics this summer. 195 different films are scheduled over the next few months at various parks in Chicago.
Father’s Day in Chicago (and everywhere else)

Need something that will really say “I love you” to dear old dad this Father’s Day? Forget the boring greeting card and head to Chi-town for a day or weekend. Live it up a bit and take dad on a Chicago food tour to to get a few samples of his favorite Chicago classic dishes, from hot dogs to pizza to chocolate to beer! He might just like a tour (or afternoon drinking at) one of the best breweries in Chicago. Who wouldn’t? Maybe go to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

Chicago Pride Parade

The 44th annual Chicago Pride week starts on June 22, 2013, with the pride festival. Join the festivities and celebrations all month long, which end with the Chicago PRIDE parade, starting at 12pm on June 30th. The route changed last year, and this year will be following the route that was established then, starting at Montrose Avenue and Broadway and ending near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road in Lincoln Park. The Chicago Pride Parade is one of the biggest events of the summer, where over 450,000 people get together to cheer, celebrate and party. The entire month of June (Pride Month) is thriving with pride for Chicago’s LGBT community and it’s definitely an unforgettable experience of a lifetime!
