To learn about how the top trade show and conferences are integrating mobile technology and eco-friendly products into their best practices, Molly Merez, Ph.D, Executive Director of Ticket Summit Org shared some of her secrets.
At the Expo Next Conference, Merez was honored as one of the Elite Conference Leaders of 2013. The Expo Group named Merez Show Manager of the Year in 2012. and Ticket Summit is now approaching its 12th conference which will take place in Las Vegas at the Bellagio July 17-19.
The planning process for a trade show and conference has an advance time line, ” We scout venues 2 yrs. in advance of the show date and usually select the venue 18 months prior to the show. Once the venue has been secured we have 12 to 18 months of work to plan and prepare,” said Merez.
Molly Merez, Ph.D said,”I am so honored to be recognized in my industry and by attending industry events there are opportunities to network and learn from other professionals about their best practices. We’re also seeing more suppliers making eco-friendly products available to planners.”
“We plan to stay at the cutting-edge of the trade show and conference industries and to do that part of our strategiy includes integrating the latest mobile technology into our show:”
“When we integrate the mobile technology into our shows, we are helping the industry to get participants on board in the direction of totally “Green ” conferences. It’s not easy, it’s a process. In the trade show and conference industries, participants traditionally have received show bags filled with lots of paper products: paper that too often is discarded ad not even read.Throwing away the paper is a waste for everyone. We’re doing our part to change that with Ticket Summit.”
Molly said, “We created a mobile app for our conference, This mobile app contains the show schedule and an interactive floor plan. People always have their phones and with the app, they can provide us instant feedback about a session they attend or anything about the conference they want us to know. “
She continued,” Some of the advanced benefits of using the mobile conference app include the way attendees can easily find a speaker’s profile, picture, and bio and message them on platforms such as Facebook.”
According to Merez,” In many of the trade show bags that attendees receive there has traditionally been too much paper. Sadly, the result is too often seen of attendees throwing away most of the paper and it creates waste. A majority of the paper is not read and that’s a waste to those who have created it, paid for it, and provided it for the participants.”
We are dedicated to making the conference as “green” as possible and as I’ve said before it’s a process. To help move the process along faster, we have an educational session for our vendors and sponsors before the show. We require that the products they give out in the show bags have a longer shelf life and recommend they sponsor practical products they can use for a long time.”
Molly’s recent suggestions to sponsors are for giveaways such as business card holders, iphone chargers, flash drives, and pens.” Our goal is also to reduce the use of plastic at the show and we’re incorporating the use Enviroboard which is eco-friendly.”
‘Molly continued,”As industry professionals, we appreciate when our trade show and conference suppliers make more eco-friendly products available to us meeting planners.”
As Molly described her conference,” Ticket Summit is the event to attend for anyone who is involved with a ticket from sales to distribution to the technology needed to sell the tickets. We get attendees from theaters to sports executives representing professional teams who want to sell seats to luxury boxes.”
