Letter To The Editor:
The Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman case was and continues to be a tragedy as the Federal government, the mainstream media and radical left socio-political organizations disappointed with the jury’s findings seek to find some methods to overturn the decision. What was revealed from the evidence and testimony presented in the trial determined both individuals’ miscalculated actions led to the death of Trayvon Martin. Regardless of what people feel, believe or theorized occurred, have no place in American jurisprudence.
I am no attorney. However, I have worked with them for more than thirty years and I have a sister who is an attorney. They informed me that the American jurisprudence system requires the prosecution present solid evidence to prove their complaint. If the evidence is weak or results in reasonable doubt, the prosecution loses. The Martin team of attorneys were unable to present evidence to convict Zimmerman for anything, in my sister’s view. She predicted the outcome well before the jury rendered its verdict based on what she observed.
Nonetheless, our Department of Justice remains dissatisfied despite spending nearly 16 months to find animus and malevolence on Zimmerman’s part and any other possible violations. They found nothing. The Attorney General informed the public his department will continue the investigation to determine if Martin’s civil rights were violated. Many attorneys believe this will go anywhere. The Attorney General also want the 30 states that have “stand your ground” law to review them to place onus on victims of physical attack. Victims will be required to explain and prove why deadly force was utilized when they are in defensive postures.
Radical left leaning socio-political groups and the mainstream media have attempted to inject race into the case before, during and after the proceedings even though the Martin team of attorneys stated it was not. As a professional physical anthropologist and counseling psychologist for many years, I am fascinated by race baiters’, profiteers’, and hustlers’ attempt to re-assign Zimmerman’s ethnic group to “white-Latino”. This appears to be an effort to verify that the United States is a white racist society and persons of this ethnic group are born this way and should be loathed and loath themselves for the tainted past of their ancestors’ and the few today who do hold racist views.
If racism is based on biological ancestry then practically every American whose ancestors arrived in the United States either on the Mayflower or slave ships are racists. Virtually every person defining themselves an African-American has some Euro-American ancestry due to both rape mostly of African women during pre- and post Civil War periods as well as through marriage. Defining racism in this manner is ridiculous. Those who hold such views should be repudiated.
