Tribeca Restobar is the latest gastro pub to stake a claim in the trendy Bangkok food mecca known as Thong Lor. Taking their cue from the “hard core” foodie scene in the USA, they feature an “all day brunch” theme with a focus on small plates of food and their fully stocked bar. Their name comes from the historic Manhattan borough in New York City, and Tribeca embraces a philosophy of uncompromising quality, that extends from the décor to the service and the quality of ingredients.
The restaurant has a great vibe, with a casual bistro feel with three different levels of seating, and an inviting outdoor terrace. The fully stocked bar is the centerpiece of the space and it is made all the more appealing by the surrounding display cases that are overflowing with eye catching and delectable homemade desserts and pastries.
“We are real foodies” shared co-owner Rishi Arora who opened the restaurant with partner Shareen Aurora in July of 2013. “We were really inspired by the brunch scene in New York and wanted to bring that to Thailand. Our menu is based on food we love to eat and we use organic and locally sourced ingredients as much as possible”. They work in tandem with the best local producers and source handmade breads from a local French bakery and use high quality cured meats, sausages and bacon from artisanal food maker Joe Sloan. The eclectic menu features an avant-garde take on classic American fare along with creative twists on popular Italian and Asian dishes which you would easily find in a New York bistro. They have an all day brunch menu, lots of coffee, tea, and a selection of milkshakes, as well as a small dinner menu and a few set lunch options. You will also want to stop by every weekday and enjoy their Happy Hour from 16:00 to 20:00 hours. On the weekends, you can take advantage of their free flow selected cocktails such as Bellini’s, Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Prosecco for just $16.08USD (499Baht)++.
The menu at Tribeca is the type that makes my heart sing. It’s full of stick to your ribs comfort food that is all at once innovative yet familiar. Start off with a delectable Peanut Butter & Chocolate Milk Shake which is served with Recess Peanut Butter cups. It is rich and creamy without being overly sweet and heavy. For something hearty and filling, the Ruben w/ Pastrami, Emmental Cheese, Sauerkraut, Russian Sauce & Sour Dough Bread is unprecedented. The beef is rich, fatty and juicy and by far the best pastrami I’ve had in Bangkok. Every single element of the sandwich is simply divine. My other favorite is their signature version of Eggs Benedict, called Maple Glazed Pork Belly, Sous Vide Poached Eggs, Butter Milk Pancake, Hollandaise Sauce w/Baby Mustard & Spring Onion. This is an epic accomplishment that redefines what is possible when ingenuity meets an iconic dish. The semi-sweet pancake and the decadent pork belly all coalesce with the umptious egg yolk and the acidic hollandaise sauce and mustard. It’s soulful and seductive and probably one of the “best bites” I’ve had all year. Another nice dish is the Sausages & Polenta made with fresh ground Italian sausage meatballs, roasted garlic, peppers, onions, a fried polenta cake all swimming in a tasty tomato sauce. Also be sure to try some other house favorites such as their Butter Milk Waffles, Fried Chicken w/Maple Butter & Maple Syrup and their Wagyu Beef Burger w/ Duck Fat Fried French Fries.
Tribeca is appealing on a myriad of levels. They are offering high quality cuisine and putting out food that is innovative and soulful. The menu is focused and engaging and the prices are very attractive with the average dish priced under $8.05USD (250Baht) and the most expensive dish priced at $13.53USD (420Baht). With it’s a great vibe, awesome prices, friendly service and rich and hearty food, Tribeca is the kind of place that you will want to come back to time and time again.
