Last night’s long awaited “True Blood” season 6 premiere, which aired on Sunday, June 16, at 9/8 p.m. central on HBO, introduced an all new Bill Compton in “Who Are You Really?”
The “True Blood” season 6 premiere started right where the season 5 finale left off: A bloody Bill (Stephen Moyer) rises out of his own pile of blood on the ground, but he doesn’t seem to be himself anymore. Eric and Sookie hightail it out of there and while they are driving away with Nora, Jason, Jessica, Tara and Pam, Sookie and Eric agree that “Billith” let them go.
Nora points out that if there is a chance that Lillith is walking the earth in whatever form – Billith for the time being – she needs to be destroyed.
When Nora tries to glamour Jason, to get some information out of him, he gets mad and pulls a gun on Nora. Sookie comes to her aid which infuriates Jason even more. “You are as dead to me as they are,” he yells and walks away, only to run into an adversary of his own – Warlow.
Just then Bill shows some of his new powers as he summons Jess in a very violent way, causing her to vomit blood all over Eric. She has no choice but to find Bill, wherever he is, and Sookie gets in the car to go with her and help her. Nora and Eric are not far behind. When Pam tries to stop Eric he just tells her to get out of his way.
Sookie and Jess find Bill in some old mansion and follow the trail of bloody footprints until they find him sitting on the porch, all cleaned up and looking like his old self again. He claims that he just wants to talk.
Just then Nora swoops down from the sky but Bill effortlessly throws her aside. When he tries to do the same to Eric, he finds himself with a stake through his chest, delivered by Sookie of all people.
After a very short struggle he pulls the stake out of his chest. “Now can we talk?” he growls.
Sookie: “What are you?”
Nora: “Are you Lillith?”
Bill: “I am Bill Compton. Though clearly I am something more.”
He tries to convince the others that he means them no harm, but that he will defend himself if they attack him again.
Sookie has had enough. She wants Bill to go away, leave all of them alone, including Jessica, and tells him to never come back.
This time it is Jessica who surprises the viewers by taking her maker’s side and demanding that the others leave her and Bill alone.
Once they are gone Bill shows himself from his more gentle side when he brings a tired Jess a cup of warmed-up True Blood and tucks her into bed. Everything seems fine until Jess knocks over the cup and Bill suspends the the liquid in the air without even trying.
He makes a confession to Jess and tells her that he needs her now more than ever, because he doesn’t understand his own powers and is afraid that it might turn him into a mad man. “I don’t know what I am. I don’t know why I am. You are the only one I can trust.”
Bill almost seems like the old Bill Compton until he hears voices calling his name. He finds himself surrounded by multiple Lilliths who rush into his body.
Now who is running the show? Bill? Lillith? Billith?
