True Tours is a historical walking tour company in downtown Fort Myers, Florida. It offers a menu of five different sojourns through the revitalized River District, including a highly popular history tour, an enchanted nightime Haunted History Tour and a public art walking tour that introduces folks to Fort Myers’ rich history through the more than 40 public artworks that dot the riverfront and River District.
Gina Taylor manages all aspects of the company including programming, research and tour scripts. A former member of Lee Trust for Historic Preservation and the new Music Walk Chairwoman, Taylor is always seeking ways to improve the visitor experience of True Tourists. One of those initiatives is the True Tours Fan Club.
“When someone buys a ticket for a tour, they receive a customized fan instead of a ticket,” Taylor explains.
Each tour has its own fan with pictures pertinent to its theme. “The fans serve a dual purpose,” notes Taylor. “They are used during the tour to help with the heat. And afterwards, they entitle our guests to discounts at 11 restaurants, 10 retail shops, 2 salons, and the Southwest Florida Museum of History. Our guests simply have to present their fan at any of the participating merchant establishments to receive a discount.”
It’s easy to tell who’s participating in the program and who’s not. Fan Club partners display one of True Tours’ fans in their storefront window or door.
The fans also serve to keep True Tours’ guests coming back to the River District again and again and again. “The fan does not have an expiration date, so it can be used and reused creating repeat business for our River District partners,” Taylor adds. “The restaurants and shops love the program!”
As does everyone who takes a River District excursion with one of True Tours’ guides. In no time at all, the fans allow them to recoup the modest cost of their ticket several times over.
