The riot threats are running rampant on Twitter. It seems that the same people who were calling for riots and threatening to assassinate former presidential candidate Mitt Romney if President Obama lost the 2012 election are out in droves yet again.
At the time of the Romney threats, Stephen Ford from Policymic opined that the reason for the nasty trend had to do with the growing culture of dependence that the radical left has nourished in America. Ford wrote,
“The threat of violence — the promise of murder — is now acceptable to a growing number of our fellow citizens…
Luckily, many of the murderous tweeters were kind enough to tell us why they wanted to kill dear old Mitt: food stamps. His promise to keep the entitlement state small, affordable, and fair apparently hit a nerve — and a violent one, at that.”
The “violent” nerve of which Ford speaks does not seem to be limited to food stamps. But free stuff is certainly a part of it. A large portion of the threatening tweets reference looting. In fact, like with the Romney threats, many tweets indicate that they are looking forward the opportunity to loot, which undermines any genuine concern over a perception of injustice over an impending innocent verdict for George Zimmerman.
The mainstream media can be thanked for stirring up the masses on both occasions, as the blatant exploitation of the Trayvon Martin tragedy has been well documented. The anthem for both instances is the lovely song “Riot” by “2 Chainz,” mentioned in many of the tweets.
Yesterday, the local CBS affiliate in Miami reported that “dozens of Miami Police officers lined up for riot training.” Hysterically (or pathetically), Miami Police spokesman Freddie Cruz said “This is just purely coincidence and it is mandatory training we have to do every year,” which any thinking person could not possibly believe, considering the ramped-up threats that have taken over social media.
In 1965, the Watts Riot “sparked off 6 days of rioting, resulting in 34 deaths, over 1,000 injuries, nearly 4,000 arrests, and the destruction of property valued at $40 million.” The Watts Riot evoked a strong message from Martin Luther King, Jr. who said,
‘‘What did Watts accomplish but the death of thirty-four Negroes and injury to thousands more? What did it profit the Negro to burn down the stores and factories in which he sought employment? The way of riots is not a way of progress, but a blind ally of death and destruction which wrecks its havoc hardest against the rioters themselves’’
In 1992, the Los Angeles Riot left 53 people dead. Twenty-two of the murders remain unsolved. At the time, America watched the riots unfold with horrifying scenes of people smashing windows, looting stores, and random beatings, such as the savage beating of Reginald Denny, who was dragged out of his car and attacked.
Rodney King pleaded, ‘Can’t we all get along?’
Here is a (small) sample of tweets that seem to be less about “justice” and more about free stuff.
Lmao YUP@“@PhillyDaBoss323: #JusticeForTrayvon If you choose to riot…please…only target cars with Romney stickers lol”
