“Two and a Half Men” will introduce a new female character next fall as a replacement for Angus T. Jones’ Jake Harper, Deadline first reported Thursday (May 30).
The character will show up at Walden Schmidt’s (Ashton Kutcher) house in the season premiere claiming to be the long lost daughter of the recently deceased Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen).
The girl is said to be in her late teens or early 20s, and will eventually move in with Walden and her uncle Alan Harper (Jon Cryer). The role has not yet been cast.
The character will fill the void left by Jones, who recently departed the long-running sitcom as a series regular after ten seasons following controversial comments he made about the series.
“You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that,” he said in an interview with the Christian group Forerunner Chronicles. “I know I can’t. I’m not OK with what I’m learning, what the Bible says and being on that television show.”
Jones later apologized, finished out the season, and may appear as a guest star in future episodes, now that his character Jake is off in the Army.
This is the second main cast member to be replaced following Sheen’s firing in 2011 after a very public meltdown during which he feuded with creator Chuck Lorre. His character Charlie was subsequently killed off and replaced with Kutcher’s.
“Two and a Half Men” was renewed for Season 11 earlier this month, and was moved to a later time slot on Thursdays at 9:30/8:30 p.m. CT starting this fall.
