Until a UFO was spotted over an historic barn in Santee, a small city in San Diego County, California, not many people had ever heard of the place. But, as Huffington Post reported on May 24, that all changed when Ellen Henry, a member of the Santee Historical Society (SHS), snapped a photo of the historic Edgemoor Barn and discovered a disc-shaped object in the sky off to the barn’s left.
“I was at the Edgemoor property, in the middle of the day, to take pics of the barn to update the SHS barn logo,” Henry told local ABC affiliate 10News, refusing to be videotaped because she said she was still spooked from the sighting. It seems that her camera hasn’t worked since she took the photos. “I was constantly looking up and around the area, including the sky’s background, so I can get it just right, and not at anytime did I see anything in the sky or heard a sound of an aircraft.”
In short, Ellen Henry did not see the unidentified flying object (UFO) directly. She only saw it hovering near the barn after looking over the photos she had taken.
Henry is a researcher for SHS. Edgemoor Barn, which doubles as a museum, is celebrating its centennial anniversary, prompting the desire to gather a few updated photos. She said it wasn’t until she uploaded the pictures to her computer that she saw the image of the UFO floating over the historic barn.
“I noticed a ‘speck’ on my LCD screen after I took the shot to check for clarity, and only realized it wasn’t a speck when I downloaded it on my computer.”
10News reached out to nearby airports — several flight paths cross over Edgemoor — and were told that the facilities had no explanation for the disc or of an airborne object at the time Henry’s photo was taken.
Says Henry: “There is no way this was a commercial aircraft. I would have heard it, especially as low as it seemed to be. Someone did mention perhaps it was a drone. However, I have not seen any drones that were round or oval, and lacking wings, rudders or propellers — even the drone that looks like a fly has wings.”
The photos were taken on May 7.
Still, San Diego County locals don’t find the UFO sighting anything out of the ordinary. The Edgemoor Barn has been home to mysterious goings-on for years. Situated on property that used to house a hospital, there have been several reports of paranormal activity at the landmark over the years.
“We think someone’s come into the barn and we get up to look, and no one is there,” Elaine Murphy, president of the Santee Historical Society, told 10News.
There is a collection of sightings, including audio and video footage, located on the SHS website, which explains: “Many people died on this property, the exact number is not known. Even before the hospital and it’s buildings were demolished, accounts of the paranormal were reported.”
What do others in the area think? One resident to 10News, “Oh yeah, I do believe we are not alone out here, that’s for sure.”
Yes, not many had heard of Santee, Calif., before the UFO story went viral, but UFO sightings have a way of creating a bit of exposure for the places in which they occur. Kecksburg, Penn. Rendlesham Forest, England. Roswell, New Mexico.
And now, Santee, Calif.
With UFO and ghost sightings, the SHS could soon be host to the many who seek out places that appear to attract the paranormal. Good thing they can welcome them with updated photos of the Edgemoor Barn.
