Be still my heart. The very fabulous Umstead Hotel and Spa gets a notch more fabulous on July 8 with the scheduled reopening for The Umstead Spa.
A friend commented, “They’re redoing it? Wasn’t it already great?”
In a word, yes, based on our last visit, a year ago. So we can’t wait to see what the three-month renovation has waiting for us. We heard a little about what was coming during our Spring Lunch at The Umstead’s Herons Restaurant back in May.
According to Spa director Carolyn Doe, a lot: every aspect of the spa experience, including a greater emphasis on couples, she promises. “All aspects of the spa experience will be heightened, from state-of-the-art equipment to new relaxation areas in a variety of beautiful indoor and outdoor settings. Our ultimate goal is to provide personalized, world-class spa experiences that suit the wellness needs of all of our guests, and cater to the growing number of couples who seek the opportunity to enjoy intimate spa time together.”
The Umstead Spa will now feature 16,000 square feet of relaxation and treatment space, covering two floors. Natural elements – river rock, granite, bamboo, and glass – have been integrated throughout. New textiles, locally crafted pottery and artwork have been added, and a major focus of the spa renovation has been to put attention on raising the couples’ experience with access to three dedicated treatment rooms, each with a private deep-soaking tub, plus there’s a new coed relaxation lounge, and an open-roof coed current pool with 12-foot-high privacy walls that frame the sky above.
If You’re Going: A Couples Spa Experience Package, created just for the reopening of The Spa, will pair an overnight stay and late check-out with a choice of treatments to enjoy individually or together. Starting at $519, plus tax and service.
Another significant change will be expanded access for spa guests to the hotel’s swimming pool and fitness center. Previously open only to overnight guests of The Umstead Hotel, both facilities will be available Monday through Thursday to spa guests who spend more than $100 on treatments.
