USA Boxing has made the rest of the world take heed with the new enthusiasm created with the expertise and guidance offered by new International Teaching Coach Dr. Pedro Roque Otano and his incorporation of talented coaches from across the country.
Numerous weeks of training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs has prepared our boxers for the rigorous schedule of International competitions lined up to increase familiarity with the many different styles of boxing from around the world.
The dominance of our U.S. women at the recent 2013 Women’s Continental Championships in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, 8 gold medals in final round action, has put the world on notice that ‘there’s a new sheriff in town’ with coaches Israel Acosta (Wisconsin), Eugene Hart (Pennsylvania) and Benny Roman (New York) leading the way.

The new direction of leadership under the tutelage of USA Boxing Executive Director Anthony Bartkowski and newly named Sport Director John Dussliere has both men on the same page in determining ‘sport science and coaching education’ paramount as USA Boxing moves into the future.
The Cheo Aponte Tournament/Olympic Cup, has our ‘Elite Men’ (no headgear) along with females Virginia Fuchs (112 lbs.) and Tiara Brown (132 lbs.) making the trip to Puerto Rico, that team lead by Pedro Roque Otano (Colorado), Kevin Benford (Ohio) and Steve Rivera (New Jersey) running from May 28-June 6th.
