On Pentecost Sunday the ministers of some Christian Churches read the Scripture passages in Acts chapter two describing how the Holy Spirit came into the Temple Service celebrating the Biblical Feast of Pentecost transforming the lives of some people in such a way that they were able to speak in foreign languages that they had not learned.
Since the disciples of Jesus were in that worship service, they were also transformed as they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The formerly fearful disciples were transformed into fearless proclaimers of God’s messages about salvation through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross as they fulfilled Jesus’ final command to “be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NASB)
Just as the people of the early Christian Church needed to use the power of the Holy Spirit to spread God’s spiritual messages throughout their world; so also the people of the modern Christian Church need to use the power of the Holy Spirit to spread God’s spiritual messages about salvation through the atoning work of Jesus Christ throughout the modern world.
Christians need to use the power of the Holy Spirit to give them the insight and strength to overcome the many problems that they will face as they try to spread the truths of God’s spiritual kingdom of light in the midst of the modern world that is filled with many forms of spiritual, moral, and intellectual darkness.
As Christians use the power of the Holy Spirit live according to God’s principles found in the Bible and also spread God’s spiritual messages found in the Bible, they will become a great beacon of light of God’s kingdom for people to follow and become a member of God’s spiritual kingdom of light as they accept God’s invitation to ask God to forgive them for breaking God’s laws and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Christians will also need the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the problems and persecution that they may face as they try to bring the light of God’s principles of living found in the Bible to people living in the spiritual darkness of a lifestyle that is continuously breaking God’s laws. Those people sometimes see the light of God’s messages as such a threat to their lifestyle that they want to get rid of the source of that light so they can continue in their darkness.
That situation is seen in the teaching of Jesus in John 3:19-20, where Jesus declared that “men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light lest his deeds should be exposed.”
The more that Christians bring the spiritual light of God’s principles for living found in the Bible into the darkness of the modern world the more persecution they sometimes face. This has happened down through the ages since the beginning of the Christian Church and is happening to Christians in many countries of the modern world.
However, persecution has not stopped the Christian Church from spreading God’s messages found in the Bible, but instead the Christian Church often grows during times of persecution.
Therefore, as Christians remember the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday and how it transformed the lives of the disciples of Jesus into fearless proclaimers of God’s messages; let modern-day Christians also use the power of the Holy Spirit to bring God’s messages of spiritual light found in the Bible into the many forms of darkness that are in our modern world.
