It’s been two weeks since V3Fights brought to the Mid-South what some might say was one of the largest Amateur MMA Shows of their career. V3Fights have shown to the fighters and to the public how they earned the honor of being the most prestigious Amateur MMA Promotion company in the Tri-State area. With an extremely packed out house at Minglewood Hall, Memphis very own supremely talented Patrick Dodd (who was a contestant on NBC’s show ‘The Voice’) graced us with his version of the National Anthem. It’s now time for the fights to begin so brace your self because these fights will be leaving you gasping for air, reaching for your Tums and even wanting to scream; so let’s get started with the first fight.
To get this show activated with a Lightweight bout as Brandon Davis stepped in the cage to take on Anthony Thomas. Once the referee David Ferguson spoke the word “fight” these two fighters begin with appeared to be mirror imaging as Davis and Thomas attacked with the very same moves, Thomas gave Davis a few knees in which one went South as Davis suffers an incidental blow, allowing him five minutes of recovery time. Davis recovered quickly and this bout is back on, once engaged vigorous action came from both fighters. Thomas catches Davis leg as Davis gave a side body kick, Thomas never stopped swinging backing Davis to the cage and pleasing the crowd. Once down to the mat Davis takes Thomas’s back and syncs in a rear naked choke, at one minute and twenty seven seconds into round one Thomas taps out thus awarding Davis the winner.
Up next was a Welterweight battle between Hunter Middleton and Josiah Shipley. Middleton gets round one underway with a spinning back kick then Shipley takes Middleton down hard getting Middleton in a guillotine, yet Middleton breaks free only to be taken once again into another guillotine. This time Middleton goes with it and uses his strength to lift Shipley and slams him to the mat, the crowd takes in a very large gasp for air. It worked for Middleton he takes the mount and applies some ground & pound as the time runs out for round one. It’s now round two, Shipley returns with a heavy kick however, Middleton gives it right back. Middleton uses the cage to roll his body Shipley’s and takes Shipley into a hold, Shipley breaks free only to have Middleton to take mount giving a little ground & pound with every rise; the round ends with Middleton having mount. These two pound for pound fighters have gone the distance and it is now round three; Shipley comes back with a vengeance giving upper cuts and knees. Middleton blocks as Shipley continues to swing upon him, Middleton takes Shipley to the mat. It looks as if Middleton has Shipley in an almost unworkable position. Time is up and this battle has gone to the judges and with a split decision Middleton is declared the winner! (Middleton has the name Brave Heart for a reason)
Upper next in this Lightweight bout Daniel Byram faces off with Law Purifoy. Round one and Byram makes the first move with an inner leg kick to Purifoy, the crowd can almost feel the sting. Purifoy returns this action with a few of his own kicks, Byram takes Purifoy to the mat; Byram is looking good in this round as he takes mount giving a little ground & pound. We are seeing a great deal of wrestling from both fighters as they were switching up as the round ends. Round two gets underway as Purifoy goes for a kick as Byram is backing him to the cage. Purifoy lands a face kick thus Byram returns the same kick causing the crowd to gasp, Byram slams Purifoy to the mat only to find himself in a headlock. Byram will have to burn a great deal of his conserved energy to break away, Byram is free instantly taking the top and giving ground & pound as the time runs out of this round. It is now round three, Purifoy and Byram seem to be pacing themselves. Byram waits for a kick from Purifoy then grabbing Purifoy’s leg yet, Purifoy only uses his leg to pull Byram closer to him and taking him down to the mat. Byram appears to be taking Purifoy in an arm bar as the time runs out and this bout is left up to the judges. With a unanimous decision Byram ‘Scar Tissue’ is the winner! (Jae Medders is still asking for his rematch once his injuries heal)
This next fight is a Light Heavyweight bout with Marcus Wallace facing off with Paul Rainey. ( I must say that Wallace had cheers yet, Rainey walks out and had the crowd in ‘Awe’, it was like a surreal still moment )It’s round one and Rainey goes for a kick and it slams hard enough that even the crowd needed to take a deep breath. Wallace takes Rainey to the mat, Rainey works his way to take mount over Wallace applying hammer fist, then ground & pound as Wallace rolls over. With Rainey now on Wallace’s back Wallace attempts to stand, Rainey has not let up on his hits to Wallace. Just as Rainey pulls Wallace into an arm bar the time runs out for this round, you can honestly say that Wallace was literally saved by the bell at that moment. Round two starts off as Rainey takes charge swooping Wallace up and to the mat, Rainey takes Wallace’s back and continues to swing upon him. Wallace verbally taps so referee David Ferguson stops the fight awarding Rainey the ‘TKO’ victory one minute and twenty seconds into round two due to tap out with excessive strikes.
In this next Lightweight fight Mark Jones takes on Eli McGlothlin, the first round is just getting started and it looks like this bout will be a battle of strength. Once the two got tangled up and went to the mat McGlothlin takes Jones back and rolls him over into a rear naked choke. One minute and twenty three seconds into the first round McGlothlin gets the victory via tap out!
Montreal Grant steps into the cage to take on Josh Senkbeil in this Middleweight bout. Upon the word ‘fight’ these two warriors went to battle, they were swinging with both fighters taking hard hits from one another. Grant suffers an incidental blow, Senkbeil lands a kick to Grants face and the roar echoed throughout the crowd. This fight is vicious, Senbeil is almost barbaric attacking Grant. Round two is ready once referee Michael Cain said the simple word ‘fight’ Grant and Senkbeil went to fighting like there is a life on the line. Senkbeil gave a kick that caused a fall which he used to his advantage, taking the top while giving sharp hits to Grant. Senkbeil is showing a great deal of heart in this fight (that’s not something you see too often). Round three is ready and so are the fighters Grant and Senkbeil, Grant appears to have regained himself in this round as Senkbeil monitors every move, never letting up on Grant, Senkbeil is almost taunting with/on his attack. Senkbeil just displayed what this sport is all about. The judges declared this aggressive battle a draw! We the people look forward to this rematch soon…
Another Lightweight bout is up and it’s Matt Robinson taking on Tripp Carter, yes there must be a rowdy crowd here at Minglewood Hall tonight. Both fighters seem to want to prove something to the other, so let’s let them. Referee Matt Thomas said ‘fight’ Robinson right away has Carter to the mat, this is one escape after another from Robinson and Carter. Robinson suffers a blow that awards him incidental time to recover, even during Robinson’s recovery time Carter’s fan continue to chant “Tripp Carter” repeatedly. Once this battle began again the two fighters engaged and locked clinches taking one another down to the mat, Robinson rolls Carter into an arm bar; Carter verbally taps out. This bout was stopped two minutes and forty two seconds into round two. Awarding Robinson a great victory via tap out arm bar!
As the Championship Battles were about to begin Jaleel Willis was awarded the V3Fights Lightweight Intrim Belt due to training hard, making weight and showing up. Only to find out that his opponent Tyler Hill would not be able to fight due to Kidney failure. (This battle will continue very soon). Also, Jeremiah Trundle received V3Fights Heavyweight Intrim Belt due to training hard, making weight, and showing up to fight however, his opponent Brian Meeks was unable to fight due to circumstances out of his control.
The Welterweight Championship was Adam Osborn going up against Justin Edwards. Round one, Osborn paces himself as Edwards made swings and kicks, Osborn goes for the take down ending up with Edwards on his back. Even with his back taken Osborn continues to swing upward for Edwards head. It is now round two, Osborn comes into this round sending a kick to each of Edwards legs, Edwards kicks and Osborn goes in for a take down. Pressed to the cage Osborn lifts Edwards to place him on the mat for more ground work (referee Michael Cain stands the two fighters) only to have Osborn land a very heavy kick to Edwards head. Edward continues to come forward with swings. Round three, Osborn seems to be working on Edwards leg to weaken Edward due to pain. Osborn has a beastly look as he charges Edwards taking him down continuing to hit Edwards in the face. Osborn is on the mat thus giving Edwards an opportunity to get a clinch on Osborn, as the horn blew Osborn slams Edwards to the center of the mat. This bout has gone to the judges and with a split decision Edwards is declared the New V3Fights Welterweight Champion!
Up next is the Featherweight Championship with Jesse Sanderson going up against Adam Denton. It’s round one and Sanderson shows aggression as Denton is showing war, Sanderson to the mat and Denton goes to swing as if Sanderson was a speed bag ( this is a very fast paced battle so don’t blink) Sanderson and Denton alike have taken some very hard hits that have truly rattled one another. Sanderson hits Denton with a right and Denton goes down, Sanderson went for it and was very explosive; as the crowds are on the edge of their seat and two minutes and thirty six seconds into round one referee Michael Cain calls a halt to this battle via tap out due to rear naked choke and excessive strikes. Sanderson is the New V3Fights Featherweight Champion!
This next fight was for the V3Fights Female Bantamweight Championship. Sharvonda Jordan stepped in the center of the cage to face off with Jamie Milanowski. It’s round one and Jordan charges Milanowski but she wasn’t having it, Milanowski exploded once she got Jordan to the mat, with some major ground & pound. Then rolled Jordan out into an arm bar leaving Jordan no choice but to tap out. Twenty five seconds into round one and David Ferguson declared Milanowski the New V3Fights Female Bantamweight Champion!
The Main Event was a so called grudge match or was it? This battle for the V3Fights Flyweight Championship meant more to one than the other, however which fighter was fighting for the honor of what he stood for and believed in and which fought for what he believed he was entitled to. One appears to be fighting for honor and the other for bragging rights…Maybe you should decide. Matt Thomas stood there and went over the rules then told the fighters to touch gloves (one reached other the other did not)It’s round one and fight time, Jessie Parker faces off with Hunter Joffre. This bout is already very violent as Joffre charged Parker extremely explosive, Parker suffers an incidental immediately, Parker took very little of his recovery time and the two are back at it with dynamite. Joffre is showing Parker that “He’s not scared homie” (those are words Parker shouted out to Joffre which spread like wild fires). Joffre has Parker’s back but just couldn’t sync it in, however he couldn’t break free either. It’s on to round two, with a few strikes this went to the mat quickly, Joffre head butted Parkers chest to wear him down, yet Joffre received a warning for this action. Once up Parker charges, Joffre suffers a blow by a knee from Parker. Round three is underway and it’s turned out to be do or die time, Joffre gets Parker to the cage yet, Parker gets Joffre to the mat. Parker gives Joffre some pretty powerful blows to the head. The judges made their decison and it was split awarding Joffre as still the V3Fights Flyweight Champion!
