The Velour Lashes brand was founded by two friends: Mabel and Angela. From the moment that these incredible lashes were released, the brand was well on its way to becoming the success that it is today. The lashes have quite a following, including one of the biggest performers in music. The lashes provide women around the world with a renewed sense of confidence, and allure when used with any eye look. The collection of faux lashes features lashes designed to be used on the upper and lower lash lines. They are comprised entirely of genuine mink fur, and they are cruelty-free. Co-founder Angela Tran answers questions for an informative Q&A. She shares her thoughts about the success of the brand, new additions to the collection, and having a fan in superstar Beyonce. Katrina-Kasey Wheeler: How did you arrive at the decision to launch a line of lashes? Did you feel there was a void in the marketplace?
Angela Tran: The idea of starting our own line of Mink lashes really came from our love of lashes. I remember Mabel fell in love with this one pair of lashes and she literally searched everywhere for them again and she never found it so we thought – why not create our own since there was no other company offering mink lashes at an affordable price.
KKW: It is wonderful that the mink fur lashes are cruelty-free. That is such an important aspect that many consumers keep in mind before purchasing products. Is this something that was of extreme importance for you when launching the line? Please tell our readers about the design and production process for these luxurious lashes?
AT: Yes, it was extremely important to Mabel and I. We both grew up with pets and we’re in love with animals so we’re definitely against animal cruelty. First off, our mink hair comes from free-range zoo’s. Minks have two main shedding seasons, the fall and spring, and what zookeepers normally do is they just collect and discharge the shedded fur. We simply asked the zookeeper to recycle the fur to us so we can make our lashes. On top of that, given the amount they shed and the little amount we use per lash there is no reason to harm these animals.
KKW: There were some new styles recently added to the collection. Do you think there will be others in the future as well?
AT: Oh yes definitely – We aim to have at least 5 new styles out by the end of the year! Along with the new styles, we’re planning to launch clusters as well! We’re super excited for this!
KKW: Which styles are the top three with consumers?
AT: That’s a hard one because all our styles do very well and each style has their own fans! But if I had to choose, it would have to be You complete me, I got it from my momma and Lash in the city!
KKW: Which styles are your personal favorites and why?
AT: Both Mabel and I are in LOVE with our new style – Guilty Lashaholic! The double layer style is perfect for the night out and we both love it in pictures! It definitely makes my eyes pop! My other favorites include Strike a pose and Oops Naughty me. The new shortened version of Oops Naughty me is the perfect semi-dramatic lash – I could wear it with just a simple eyeliner. Mabel can never get enough of the classic Lash in the city and our new style I Got It From My Momma.
KKW: The line is truly successful. There was an article published in a magazine that discusses Beyonce and Velour Lashes. The article highlights the fact that Beyonce is a huge fan of Velour Lashes. How does it make you feel to know that a star like the singer loves the product that you are providing for consumers?
AT: When we first heard about the news of Beyonce wearing our lashes we actually didn’t believe it! At the time, we were in Tokyo doing a show and I remember we went about our day like it was nothing but once we got the confirmation – we were literally screaming and jumping like little girls in our hotel room. Once it was actually published – it was probably one of the best feelings in the world.
KKW: Velour Lashes has so many fans. Everyone from celebrities to YouTube personalities are enthralled with the lashes. Are you surprised by the way that the line has been received by so many?
AT: Now, when we hear about a new celebrity wearing our lashes – we will get so excited so I don’t think this feeling will ever stop. From the very beginning, Mabel and I always believed 100% in our product and we knew we had a good thing. We just want to be able to share it with the world and make everyone feel beautiful with our lashes.
KKW: How would you like to see the brand expand in the years to come?
AT: Mabel and I would really love to see Velour Lashes as the go to lash brand and for us to become the lash Gurus : ) It would be a dream come true if we can get into Sephora some day so we’re working towards that!
KKW: Are there any new projects that you are working on? Is there anything else that you would like to add?
AT: We’re really focusing on retail at the moment so we might be coming to a store near you so please watch out for us : ).
