Vitriol the Hunter was a book at first that could be deceiving. When viewing its dark yet colorful pages for with virgin eyes it has a very Saturday morning feel to it. After reading a whole issue you realize that this makes the book seem very animated.
Vitriol is a stubborn man trying to make the world safe for humans again. Following in his father’s footsteps while also fixing his father’s mistakes he hunts the creatures of the night.
The story takes places in a city called Basilika, the majority of the first story featuring the determined vampire slayer, happens at night. Yet Billy Martin’s colors keep the darkness and death out of the dominion of depressing and usher them into realm of optimism and determination.
These six issues are fast paced while not ignoring character development. Billy Martin and Brent Allen have weaved a fun tale that has a satisfying ending with some very good lead in’s to at least 3 more miniseries if not an on-going. What makes them good lead in’s is that they are obvious enough to make the reader interested in what might happen next but not lame cliff hangers that will make you mad if Martin and Allen decide to take on a different sophomore project.
