Wade Robson who was once a star witness in the 2005 trial where Michael Jackson was acquitted of molestation charges, is now singing a different tune according to a Billboard Biz article published May 9, 2013.
Wade Robson who is happily married and has a child suffered a breakdown last year that caused memories to flood in regarding sexual trauma from childhood according to the report. Now, seven years after the molestation trial that he testified in and four years after Jackson’s death a new lawsuit is being filed against the Jackson estate which reportedly recants Robson’s testimonies and claiming there was sexual abuse during those years that Robson worked with him.
Hypnosis is often an effective tool in helping one remember and work through the trauma. Especially traumatic memories, which can be repressed but they never truly go away. The repression is an effective coping mechanism for a short while, but the impact of these memories will begin to resurface, usually in the most inopportune times. They influence ones actions without even knowing or understanding why, and when they completely resurface they are usually as painful as they were when they happened. However, the resurfacing can be very cathartic and generally the individual will have new coping mechanisms and experiences to help them work through the forgotten trauma.
Filing against the Jackson estate has passed its deadline, but a “California civil statute allows victims of abuse to file a lawsuit within three years of discovering “that psychological injury or illness … was caused by the sexual abuse.”
Most of the court documents have been sealed and the case is requesting a date in June (which the judge presiding over the Jackson estate will have to approve it has validity to move forward) but according to Billboard “summary of the documents states the choreographer includes a declaration from a psychiatrist and an “Unfiled Complaint for Childhood Sexual Abuse.”
Howard Weitzman (attorney for the Jackson estate) wrote in a statement: “Mr. Robson’s claim is outrageous and pathetic. This is a young man who has testified at least twice under oath over the past 20 years and said in numerous interviews that Michael Jackson never did anything inappropriate to him or with him. Now, nearly four years after Michael has passed this sad and less than credible claim has been made. We are confident that the court will see this for what it is.”
Wade Robson, born in Australia, is a successful choreographer who has worked with many high profile celebrity names. He has also appeared on the Fox dance hit “So You Think You Can Dance”.
