With the recent announcement that X-Force will be brought to the big screen by Jeff Wadlow (writer/director Kick-Ass 2), many fans are just waiting to see which roster will be used for the film adaption. Although it would be cool to see the original team to make their debut, the current (now defunct) black ops strike team is the more likely choice. Regardless of which characters are chosen, the following is a list of characters, the actors/actresses suggested to portray them and why.
The actor who should portray the original leader of X-Force should be none other than Michael Biehn who has been in such films as Aliens (Cpl. Dwayne Hicks), The Terminator (Kyle Reese), Navy Seals (Lt. James Curran), Tombstone (Johnny Ringo) and The Rock (Commander Anderson). Biehn’s no stranger to filling a militaristic role and he would be a perfect fit to fill the role of the time-traveling commando from the future (similar to Reese).
The obvious choice is Hugh Jackman. Some people love him and some hate him, but Jackman is probably the only actor to portray a Marvel hero more times than anyone else, showing no signs of slowing down. Although the actor mentioned he will eventually pass the reins on to a younger actor, he is still willing to give his all to portray the century-old mutant.
Archangel is a definite fit into this film because he is in the constant struggle between his Angel/Archangel persona and the actor chosen to portray him would be Scott Porter. He would also be a good choice for Nova/Richard Rider but since that’s not happening (yet), Porter knowledge of being a comic book fan and acting skills could easily be put into the shoes of Warren Worthington III. Another possibility could be Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood, Generation Kill, Tarzan)
For the role of Elizabeth Braddock, the proper choice could be Maggie Q due to her fighting skills in multiple films and television (Live Free or Die Hard, Nikita, Priest, Mission Impossible III). She may be a few inches shorter, but Maggie would work as the ninja assassin.
Many people see him as a curse to comic book films, but Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern, Van Wilder, Blade: Trinity) has been attached to a solo Deadpool film for years and if given proper direction by the writers of Zombieland, and his comedic skills Reynolds displays on multiple occasions, he is still the perfect candidate for the Merc with a Mouth who continues to break the fourth wall. Additionally, Reynolds is still attached to the film which is supposedly releasing in 2016 along with X-Force in the same year so there’s something to ponder.
Deathlok Prime is a cybernetic soldier of few words, but it’s the silent ones you have to watch out for. For this role, the choice would be Idris Elba for his outstanding performances in just about every film or television show he’s in (Pacific Rim, Prometheus, Thor, The Losers, RocknRolla).
Since joining X-Force, Fantomex has become a popular character in the Marvel Universe and although he’s currently split into three different people, the version portrayed on the big screen would be before the split. For this character portrayal, the choice would go to either Jason Statham (Transporter, Expendables) or the French actor Cyril Raffaelli (District B13, Live Free or Die Hard, Kiss of the Dragon) as Weapon XIII.
The veteran X-Force member who has the mutant ability of probability manipulation has been a member off and on since the beginning and the best choice to portray Domino could be Lena Headey (300, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Game of Thrones, Dredd).
The genetic clone of Wolverine must be portrayed by someone who could seem cold and almost emotion-free as well as an actress who is either a teen or someone who could portray a teen. Originally, Vanessa Hudgens was considered but her height of 5’1” (compared to 5’7”) put her out of the running. Ultimately, Miranda Cosgrove (Despicable Me 1 and 2, iCarly, School of Rock) was chosen because of her potential acting talent and if put to the test, there’s a good chance she could portray the teen assassin, but it would be a change of pace from her current type of roles.
It’s difficult to cast an actor over seven feet tall so there would have to be some leeway but whoever is cast should be taller than the rest of the group. There is also a shortage of Native American actors to fill this role so the choice would have to be as close as possible. There has been talk for Joe Mangeniello (True Blood, Magic Mike, Spider-Man, Sabotage) to portray another incarnation of Sabretooth, but what if he was to become Warpath instead? At 6’5” Manganiello has both the height and acting skills to portray James Proudstar.
Although Rahne Sinclair was only shortly on the team, she is a force to be reckoned with and althouge Keira Knightley was originally a thought for the role, the choice is instead directed toward Irish-born actress Evanna Lynch (Harry Potter series as Luna Lovegood)
Since the creation of the team, X-Force has time-traveled quite a bit and one thing remains almost constant in their battles…Apocalypse! The Eternal One has made a strong presence in both X-Force and the Uncanny Avengers and recently, it’s been rumored he will possibly have a major role in the X-Men Universe, which will more than likely be in X-Force due to his ties to both Cable and Archangel. As old as Apocalypse is, he should be portrayed by an actor who is a little older himself and dominates with his screen presence. The role also doesn’t have to include a lot of action because Apocalypse can be mostly CGI’d or just voiced so the choices for this role go to either David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) or Mark Strong (Green Lantern, Kick-Ass, Stardust, RocknRolla, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood).
Finally, since Scott Summers is the one who decided to form the team, James Marsden should have a small part in the beginning of the film to talk with Logan about the formation because he is Cyclops!
Well there you have it! This is of course just an opinion so there will be disagreements or suggestions, but this is only a wish list of choices.
