A Daily Word from the Word for Thursday, May 30, 2013
“Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” – Psalm 36:5
God’s love and faithfulness are literally all around us. For every believer who is sensitive to these attributes, by the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit, we can feel them, operate in them, move them around, breathe their fragrance in and out, cover ourselves with them, and cause them to go before us on our behalf. The more we are sensitive to Holy Spirit, the more we tap into and flow in the supernatural; and the more we see, feel, hear, and touch, by our spirit, the power and essence of God.
The Hebrew word for “mercy” as used in this verse is checed (pr. kheh-sed), which means “kindness, beauty, favor, good deeds” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Psalm 5:12 testifies “For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
Many people, including some of God’s children, do not realize that the heavens start right at the surface of the earth. That’s right, family, your feet touch heaven every single day! Your body moves in heaven. This is the first heaven, and is not to be confused with the Lord’s abode, which is very far above the first heaven, and begins somewhere at the third heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2).
Heaven is filled with both angels and demons, which helps explain so much of the spiritual warfare present and taking place around us. This is why we humans are subject to attack, and are attacked; because we dwell in this first heaven, which is also occupied by the devil and his demons. Ephesians 6:12 informs us of this truth and provides the strategy, as it declares “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
The good news is that every believer has already been given the victory through the Blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ! Our Savior and Big Brother already whooped that dishonorable, dastardly, and despicable devil at the Cross of Calvary! We overcome this cowardly foe by the “Blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony” (Revelation 12:11).
These “heavens” are shameh (pr. shaw-meh), meaning “the sky, alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve, air.” The Psalmist sings “The earth, O Lord, is full of Your mercy” (Psalm 119:64). The earth could only be full of the mercy of God if the Father’s mercy was contained in the very air that is all around us, and covers the earth like a mantle.
God’s “faithfulness” is His emunah (pr. em-oo-naw); His “firmness, security, stability, fidelity, truth.” It is only by God’s faithfulness, that everything, including us, is held together. God is our security, our strength, our stability, and our solid rock on which we stand. If not for God’s fidelity, which is His state of perpetual, unchanging, immovable and steadfast faithfulness, we would come apart, become unraveled, as would everything and everyone around us.
The Father’s faithfulness must be on the earth; if not, where else would it “reach to the clouds” from? The “clouds” are the shachaq (pr. shakh-ak), which is “the firmament, to comminute.” According to Webster’s Dictionary, the firmament is “the vault or arch of the sky,” and “to comminute” is “to reduce to minute particles.” As the Father’s faithfulness reaches back up to the firmament (and beyond) from the earth, it carries with it, every prayer of the righteous; and reduces to particles, grinding into dust, every strategy of the enemy.
Isaiah 54:17 gives us the sure Word, the Sword of the Lord: “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD.”
Do you need a fresh scent, my brother? Do you want to feel like you can breathe again, my sister? Then start to experience, take in, and inhale God’s mercy, which is all around you— including in the very air you breathe.
Father, thank You for Your mercy, which is all around us and fills the earth. Thank You that we are kept together by Your faithfulness. Most Faithful Father, help us to experience Your mercy that we walk in, to the greatest degree possible. Overtake us with Your mercy. Help us to be walking vessels that feel Your very mercy which we breathe in and out. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we move, function, and operate in Your amazing and transforming mercy. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to allow the Father to show you and shower you with His mercy. Choose to be aware of God’s mercy all around you every single day. Decree and declare that “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which he worked in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and has put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:18-23). And continue to fight the good fight of breathing in the mercy of the Father; for God, Your Breath of Life, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
