As the rain continues in Central Virginia, families are making weekend plans. There are many Central Virginia activities and events to enjoy this weekend. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
The Peaks of Otter Lodge reopens on Friday under new management. Families will again be able to enjoy hiking, picnicking and other weekend activities at the Peaks.
Some families will head downtown to Riverfront Park on Friday night to enjoy Friday Cheers. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre will hold Family Fun Day. All activities will cost only $1 per hour for each person.
Enjoy skiing, snowboarding and tubing all day long. There will also be slip and slides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bounce houses from 3-9 p.m. and a free movie, The Lorax, at 8:30 p.m.
There are two other free movies to enjoy this weekend in Lynchburg. The Lorax will be shown at Movies in the Park, held at Timbrook Park on Leesville Road. The gates open at 8 p.m. and the movie starts at dark.
To Catch a Thief will be shown on Saturday at the RiverFlick Film Series, held on Jefferson Street, across from Amazement Square. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie begins at dark.
Come early for the movie and enjoy Family Fun Night at Amazement Square. From 4-7 p.m., admission is only $3 per person.
On Saturday morning, free tours will be offered at Summer Saturdays in the Old City Cemetery from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy the beauty of nature and learn more about local history.
Endstation Theatre will present Cymbaline on Friday and Sunday at 7 p.m. at Sweet Briar College. This family-friendly play is a great way to introduce kids to live theater.
There are plenty of indoor weekend activities too. Lynchburg Public Library will offer Party Magic on Saturday at 1 p.m. This free event is open to the public.
The Academy of Fine Arts and Encore Youth Theatre will present “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
On Sunday at 3 p.m., the Second Sunday Concert will be held at the Bicentennial Chapel. No tickets are needed, but you must call (434) 847-1465 to reserve your place.
As usual, Lynchburg Community Market and the Forest Farmers Market will be open on Saturday morning. Pick up some fresh produce for weekend meals.
