In preparation for the Chicago Yarn Crawl, many local yarn shops are holding sales in the coming weeks to make room for more yarn and higher customer traffic. Here is a list of deals that can be found around town this weekend:
Knitche: From now until July 27, Knitche is holding its 9th Anniversary Sale, complete with limited-edition knitting needles topped with a yarn ball and “9”-embossed coffee cup. New to this year’s sale is their Yard Sale, with special discounts available in their back area through July 21. It is their biggest Anniversary Sale to date, with discounts on everything from yarn to notions to shop samples. Check Knitche’s website for daily store hours.
The Nook: This relatively new yarn shop in Lisle is offering a unique discount in the month of July. If the temperature outside reaches 100 degrees, then the store will offer 15% off all yarn and ice cream for the remainder of the business day. Check the store’s facebook page for the most up-to-date weather readings in the area, or just stop by.
Sifu Design Studio: This Edgewater store is offering 15% off all spinning supplies to coincide with the Tour de Fleece a personal-challenge event dedicated to spinning and scheduled at the same time as the Tour de France. The sale runs through Sunday, July 21, and includes all supplies needed to make your own yarn.
Squiggly’s Yarn Shop and Studio: Although Squiggly’s opened past the entry deadline for the Chicago Yarn Crawl, this Rogers Park yarn shop is offering 25% off customers’ entire purchase through next Friday, July 26. While the discount does not include classes, almost everything else in the store is included in the sale. Squiggly’s website has updated store hours for the event.
Stitch(es): In conjunction with the Winnetka Downtown Sidewalk Sale, Stitch(es) is holding their promotion indoors on July 19 and 20. All sale yarns are marked down to 75% off their original price for both days, and all magazines are half-price. Needles and accessories are also discounted 15% off for the sale. Stitch(es) is open until 5p.m. on both days.
String Theory Yarn Company: From July 25 to July 29, String Theory in Glen Ellyn is holding a Stash Sale during the town’s Sidewalk Sale to encourage knitters to go out with the old and in with the new. Customers can bring in yarn from their stash with a price they set, and any yarn that sells will result in a store credit for the yarn donor. Whatever does not sell will be donated to local charities. If a local charity would be interested in receiving a yarn donation, representatives can send an email to email@example.com to inquire about the possibility of receiving the yarn.
Wool and Company: This yarn shop in St. Charles offers a new yarn every month which receives its own special discount, and this month’s yarn is Bijou Spun from Bijou Basin Ranch. The yarn is being featured both at the store and in the online shop for 30% off, and is only valid while supplies last. The sale is scheduled to run through August 14.
Why wait for the Chicago Yarn Crawl to get a discount on yarn? Several Chicago stores are having sales in the next two weeks, and the same exemplary customer service will be offered whether you are stuck on a project, or you just want to buy something new.
