Consumption of the fruit beverages led to an 11 per cent reduction in the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a protein produced in the liver and is a known marker for inflammation, according to findings published in the British Journal of Nutrition – Journal of Nutrition. “The use of blackcurrant and orange juices reduces the level of the inflammatory markers CRP and fibrinogen in patients with [peripheral arterial disease] compared to a sugar-containing beverage while no effect of vitamin E was observed,” according to the article, “Fruit juices beat vitamin E for artery health: Study.” The article noted that the study’s author is Dr. Christine Dalgard, University of Southern Denmark’s Institute of Public Health.
Orange and blackcurrent juice reduced inflammation markers in one study
Dr Dalgard’s study also has been reported to BeverageDaily.com. The study noted, “Supplementation with vitamin E was reported to have produced no significant effects on the inflammation markers.” But orange and blackcurrent juice in the study, “reduced markers of inflammation, but not markers of endothelial activation, in patients with peripheral arterial disease, relative to sugar drinks,” concluded Dalgard and her scientific team.

Healing juices in balanced amounts based on your body’s needs and conditions has been touted for decades in the popular consumer media
Folkloric traditions of the northwest Caucasus and many other places have a penchant for healing juices, in medieval times made by pounding and grating of vegetables and fruits, sometimes mixed. And so these healing tools suggest apple and cherry for arthritis. It has been said that eating 45 cherries helps arthritis.
Juicing vegetables have their reputation in folkloric food as medicine writings. For example, to clear the skin, it has been said, you juice parsley and spinach. To lower blood pressure, four celery stalks juiced with a handful of clean raw spinach and a pinch of barley greens, or mixed berries and banana. For stomach upset, pear, and, from the Silk Road trade route, ginger and watermelon with some pear.

Apples and pitted plums juiced with cherries and lemon or lime juice help ease your arthritis. When you juice fruits or vegetables, use one handful of vegetables or fruits in equal amounts. In a blender, mix with some water or cherry juice. You can add almonds if you want a milky-looking smoothie or shake.
For hypertension as well as for colds and bronchitis, juice four carrots with four stalks of celery, a handful of parsley, a little watercress or romaine lettuce, a clove of garlic, and a cup of low-sodium tomato juice. Or juice your own tomatoes separately and add a cup of juice to the vegetable mix. Put the plants in your blender and liquefy. For some prostate problems, put two mashed, peeled, seeded avocados in a blender and blend with barley greens or barley green powder, a handful of spinach, a quarter cup of sunflower seeds, two stalks of celery, a clove of garlic, and a small slice of ginger. Blend with a cup of low sodium tomato juice (for the lycopene power). It’s the plant sterols in avocados that help some prostate problems. You want to juice vegetables that contain enough zinc, boron, selenium, and lycopene.
In the northwest Caucasus Mountains, wise food traditions existed for centuries since ginger has been available via the Silk Road that connects the Caucasus with Eastern Europe to the north and the Middle East and Asia to the south. A traditional juice for vitality has been a mixture of apples, pears, lemon juice and ginger.
Apples, lemon, and ginger folklore
In the days before blenders and juicers, the apples and pears were pounded with ginger and lemons from Asia. But be aware that a teaspoon of raisins adds 400 calories. Stick with the apples instead. One favorite juice is green apple and celery blended in a Vita-Mix powerful blender.
Warning about juicers and frozen shoulder in older adults
After getting frozen shoulder for two years from using a masticating juicer placed too high and putting nearly my full body weight on my shoulder to push tiny pieces of beets through the small opening in the particular juicer, I switched to an electric Vita Mix blender, and I’m happy the way the pulp for fiber is included in the liquified juices. Make sure if you choose a masticating juicer to put it low enough so that you don’t have to stand halfway up on your toes to press down with your weight on one shoulder.
