The end of this week moves us into August and that means…new movie releases!!! Here’s a complete list of nationwide movie releases for the month of August 2013.
2 Guns (R) starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg opens this Friday. The two from rival bureaus are paired together to take down a narcotics syndicate, but when their identities are compromised they are left to fend for themselves and trust each other.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (PG), the second installment of the Percy Jackson franchise, will be released in theaters on August 7th. This time, Percy and his friends embark on a journey to find the magic Golden Fleece in order to save their world.
Set in the year 2159, the film Elysium (not rated) has Matt Damon fighting to save the livelihood of two classes of people—those that reside in the utopian space station Elysium and those who live in an impoverished and overpopulated Earth. In theaters August 9th.
We’re the Millers
We’re the Millers (R) stars Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts and Will Poulter as a makeshift family attempting to smuggle a large shipment of weed into the United States from Mexico. In theaters August 7th.
Disney’s Planes (PG), a spin-off of the 2006 Disney movie Cars, tells the story of the crop dusting plane Dusty and his dream and journey to compete in a high-flying air race. The film touches down in theaters on August 9th.
Lee Daniels’ The Butler
Lee Daniels’ The Butler (not rated) is based on the true story of a man who served as a butler in the White House for 8 United States Presidents over the course of 30 years. The film opens August 16th and stars Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding, Jr., David Oyelowo, Terrence Howard, Robin Williams, Melissa Leo, Lenny Kravitz, Liev Schreiber—everybody is in this movie! LOL
Paranoia (PG13), which opens August 16th, is a thriller where a man is blackmailed by his boss to spy on a rival company, a situation that spirals out of control when the man realizes he is just a pawn in this lethal game. The film stars Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth, Amber Heard, Lucas Till, Nick Oldman and Julian McMahon.
In the sequel, Kick-Ass 2 (R), opening August 16th, Hit Girl attempts to retire as superhero Kick-Ass teams up with Colonel Stars and Stripes (played by Jim Carrey) to take down a vengeful Red Mist, who has been reborn as The Motherf^@$*&.
Also opening August 16th is jOBS (PG13), starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs, the co-founder and former chairman and CEO of Apple. The film also stars Josh Gad, Ron Eldard, John Getz , Lesley Ann Warren and James Woods.
Late August releases
The latter part of August brings the release of the following movies: The World’s End (R), You’re Next (R), The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (PG13), The Grandmaster (not rated), Closed Circuit (R), Getaway (PG13), One Direction: This is Us (not rated) and Random (not rated).
