When parents are expecting a second or third child, older children will be very curious and, perhaps apprehensive about the arrival of a new baby in the house. “What Will Baby Be Like?” will help prepare them for the days that lay ahead.
Written by Violet M. Findlay, a mother, grandmother and teacher, the author was inspired to write the book for her grandchildren. Because the first child handled the birth of his sister badly, she was concerned about the reactions that her two grandchildren might have to the birth of the third child. Violet made a personal photo book to read to the brother and sister, and noticed how well they reacted to all the changes that happened once the baby came home from the hospital. She was pleasantly surprised how they practiced everything that was in the book.
Since that book helped her grandchildren adjust, she then decided it would be great to help other children do the same. Her first published book was dedicated to her family and has pictures of them scattered throughout the book. Once that was finished Violet thought about many of the multi-cultural children and then decided to make a book for them. The book is now available in two versions; White and Ethnic.
“Though there was a lot of time and hard work invested in these books, I looked forward to getting on my computer each day. I really believe in these books and I’m quite excited to be able to share my ideas with other families,” the author stated.
“What Will Baby Be Like?” is written not only to read with a child but have discussions to help address their apprehensions and satisfy their curiosity about a new baby. There is a photo showing what a newborn looks like on the day of their birth. It also shows what a baby will need as he or she grows, and explains how the siblings can be of help. It shows ways they can have fun and interact with the baby, as well as helping with their development. There are places to add family photos throughout the book which will help them see that they went through similar behaviors.
Reviews on amazon are favorable.
“My niece is pregnant with her third child and so I ordered it for her. It’s such a great idea! I think it will really help with the anxiety and stress levels of the siblings. I particularly love where you can tape pictures of the sibling into the book so that they can interact on that level and will already feel connected when the new baby comes. Brilliant! I think that will help with jealous issues too,” wrote Laurel.
