In recent news, 90210’s Shenae Grimes wed Josh Beech in a small garden wedding near London. Grimes walked down the aisle in, surprise, a black wedding gown! A Vera Wang gown to be exact. Shocking to some, yet trendy to others-you decide.
In Fall of 2012, Vera Wang rattled the bridal world when she debuted a 15-piece collection in a palette of nude, blush, and black. The fashion icon truly outdid herself by unmasking a collection that shattered our perception of the white wedding dress, and reminded us why she is known as the “Queen” of the wedding gown. Grimes’ dress, called Josephine, is a beautiful mess of black and nude organza with a halter style neckline.
Times have changed and style is always evolving. More and more, bridesmaids aren’t the only one’s in color. We are seeing a lot of celebrities ditching the white and going for bold colors. Among the coloring trend, Cynthia Nixon wed in 2012 wearing a green Carolina Herrera gown. We saw both Jessica Biel and Anne Hathaway don pink gowns, also last year.. Amber Tamblyn got hitched in yellow at her 2012 nuptials. Most notably, famous celebs Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Pompeo, and of course, Shenae Grimes, wore black to say their I do’s.
The gowns have a distinguished Gothic tone but a romantic feel as well. They incorporate all of my favorite material: tulle, chiffon, lace, and organza. What I love about Vera Wang dresses is that you can take the look from the runway to your wedding, and the dress still works. Call me bias, but I love anything with a little Gothic undertone. It shocks people, and I love that.
They are big, they are over-the-top, they are simply Vera Wang. Frankly, I would love to see more brides strut down that aisle in black. It’s different! For my own nuptials coming up in July, I chose a dress from Vera Wang White collection. It’s lusciously full in the color Ivory, and layers upon layers of organza completes this look. I felt like this dress was worthy of a runway in Milan, and here I was wearing it. So don’t be afraid to be different, and wear what suits your taste!
