With the second episode of “Whodunnit?” under their belt, does ABC have a hit or a miss?
The second episode, Fire Starter, brought about investigation into the death of Dontae, the second contestant at Rue Manor to be taken by the killer. At last episode’s end, Dontae was enveloped in a shroud of flames and died after plunging into the swimming pool.
The remaining contestants broke into three groups to investigate the crime scene, the morgue, and the last known place the victim was to have been before death.
What was revealed, between all locations, is that Dontae was given different sleepwear than the other contestants when he returned to his bed the night before. Instead of navy pajamas and grey socks, he received a set of plaid pajamas and cotton socks. The killer also left a token of appreciation for Dontae: a pendant and chain engraved with “St Agatha, Patron saint of fire.” In addition, there was shag carpeting in Dontae’s room, the only room to have such carpeting, and there was a scorch mark around the handle of the door.
When the contestants were given the chance to investigate a riddle, they went through the house looking for further clues. Some of the contestants deduced that the pajamas may have been treated with something that made them go up into flames. Only a handful of contestants (Cris, Kam, Ulysses, and Lindsey) found the answer to the riddle: the pajamas were sprayed with Benzene, an accelerant, and Dontae’s socks caused static electricity which sparked when he touched the door handle and caused the pajamas to burst into flames. The remaining contestants formed new alliances and broke old ones and were generally suspicious of who to trust with the information they had learned.
The winner of this episode was Ulysses. He was granted immunity to pass to the next round with his assumption about the accelerant laced pajamas and static electricity buildup leading to the fire. The two contestants whose lives were placed in jeopardy this episode were Adrianna and Dana.
Both women were upset by their situation, but Adrianna ended up becoming the killer’s next victim.
So what do you guys think about the series? Do you enjoy it? Who do you think is the killer? Comment below with your guess.
