During a recent press event for Red Carpet Manicure at the Gansevoort Park Hotel in New York City on Wednesday, the DIY gel manicure company treated attendees to a 10-minute chair massage. Liz from Madison Square Chiropractic and Wellness, the massage therapist on hand, explained exclusively to the Long Island Spa Treatments Examiner why scheduling a monthly massage is important to your health.
Conducting an interview while in the throws of a relaxing massage about massage may not be the optimal way to hold a Q&A, but it certainly put this writer in the right mindset to understand the importance massage has on the body’s well being.
As I sat in the chair, face down, Liz, from Madison Square Chiropractic and Wellness, not only performed a very stress relieving 10-minute chair massage, but also detailed the benefits massage has on one’s overall general wellness.
Long Island Spa Treatments Examiner: How often do you recommend massages for stress relief?
Liz: For general wellness I recommend once a month or every couple of weeks, if you can keep it up. Massage is a great way to prevent stress. Although we can’t keep stress from creeping in to our lives, I look at massage from a preventative perspective. Our bodies look forward to it; the sense of calm it brings.
Long Island Spa Treatments Examiner: What are the health benefits of regular massages?
Liz: There are many benefits to regular massage such as improved circulation, relaxation, release of endorphins and lactic acid if you are working out a lot and a removal of antitoxins from the body. The skin is the body’s largest organ and it needs to be cared for with oil and massage.
Long Island Spa Treatments Examiner: It is so hard to schedule time for us, especially women. What do you recommend?
Liz: Yes, especially for New Yorkers who work so hard and are hard on our bodies. It is easy to let that fall through the cracks, but we need to value our bodies and make the time. That is why I am a big fan of chair massage, although it isn’t the full body massage, it can do a lot in a short period of time. Pop into any place, on demand, if you are tired, stressed, need a break, back hurting, etc. You might not get a super skilled technician, but you could. That’s why communication is key, letting them know what you want and what you need, for any massage. Tell your massage therapist what you like and don’t like, even if you don’t know, a little can go a long way.
It is also good to establish a relationship with someone you trust and know, someone who will get to know your body, it will enhance the experience. And if scheduling the time is difficult you may consider purchasing your own table and hiring a massage therapist to come to you.
Thank you to Liz for her insight into the health benefits of massage, even a 10-minute chair massage. And thank you to Red Carpet Manicure for indulging the media with a day of luxury.
